Literally everyone here in Latin America listens to English music, I mean most of the world does it’s the most mainstream and widespread type of music. dzox 552
the fandom culture on kpop is actually interesting to watch. when u see a new western artist come out with a song/album you barely see them anywhere unless they have their "break out song" that made them popular and get their awards on bbmas, vmas, grammys, etc which happened in different months. in kpop every new artist they promote on korean music shows (musicbank, inkigayo and many more) and get their awards WEEKLY if they topped the charts. lets just say its comparable to korean hot100 but they get an award on every music shows weekly, you probably seen these #(songtitle)1stWin trending on twitter. then there's also year end award shows like Melon music awards, Mnet asian music awards, etc where they get their yearly awards (song of the year, album OTY, AOTY) that happened ever end of the year (november - december), so every november-december its really fun to watch these shows and see our favs winning. then we have fanchants, if u see kpop performances you'll hear the audience shouting synchronized chants. and the lightsticks, each kpop group has their own lightsticks as merch for the fans. also have u seen any of kpop physical albums? they dont sell their CD with just a plastic case. its like any artists deluxe/special edition that came with a 50 pages booklet, photocards etc.
hELXIG 43,004
I think they just follow the pop-group template to a T. Everything from their looks, performances, video shoots, promotion. live shows, music production etc is heavily regimented and produced with huge budgets, so what they turn out is always an amazing, over the top, full on pop experience. It's no secret they live their lives in basically a music and dance boot camp. Idk though because I'm not a fan myself I'm a lyrics person, so if I can't understand the lyrics and sing along it won't hook me. Even though I can appreciate what I've seen! I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
RAMROD 109,497
Fam, what's not to love from infectious hip hop or dance beats, and a group of pretty faces with attitude that serves visuals on their music videos and performances?? It's the same concept with any boy bands and girl bands of the 90s, that uses hiphop/Dance/R&B music as their roots, except this time is different race and language, it's is not white people with 1 POC or Latino in it, in the name of diversity, singing in English anymore. If you understand why Spice Girls, BSB, N*SYNC were crazy popular then, you should already know why it works with K-POP too. Also, they are very good at utilizing internet as their tool to spread their influence, unlike J-POP, so their spread are very fast and very wide indeed. dit 46,469
i feel like it is an instant high. K-pop is a full on assault on the senses (in all the best ways). The music is often SUPER catchy (to the point that it risks sounding formulaic but whatever...), it is visually stimulating and the mvs gives you a rush of adrenaline. The songs are often laced with some nice meanings so you feel like there is some substance to the bop and the idols themselves are very interactive as well as good looking so what's not to enjoy? It is of course mostly a type of sound and music that targets younger audiences since kids are more prone to being overwhelmed by the sensory stimulation this type of music and visual provides but even tons of adults tune in because it really is just well crafted pop music in a "pleasant to the ears" foreign language. It is so much fun.
