ThisGuyTony 29,374
The song came on on Shuffle and I replayed it 3 times trying to make sense of what the song is about but couldn’t come to a conclusion. I even looked it up and found different ideas but wondered what you guys think it’s about. I know it’s 9 years old but dang... Maybe I’m just trying to make is seem deeper than what it actually is. tylertremallose 1,362
from Gaga herself "There's a voice in the background when I'm singing /As long as/ I'm your hooker/ and then the Government says: /Back up/ And Turn Around/. How much are you willing to be a puppet and hooker and how much more do you want to fight for what you believe in?"
Jose P 23,341
I thought it was common knowledge that the song is about Marilyn Monroe’s relationship with John F. Kennedy
PunkTheFunk 123,849
It's about a hooker that works for the government

selenalavigne 1,433
it's about being in a negative relationship to gain power even though it's hurting you but you choose to ignore it. but idk the lyrics are kinda ambiguous and fun as well so it's open to interpretation. derpmonster 22,412
There's another theory someone posted earlier that makes a lot of sense. The government is known to persecute sex workers/hookers and at the same time government officials use their services themselves. Countless politicians are found to have scandals involving paying for sex. The "get up and turn around" guy isn't just a kinky partner. It's a cop trying to arrest her. She says, "stop ****ing me" to them because they can't have it both ways - using their services then prosecuting them for it. We have to remember the context of this song. On the album BTW, Gaga made songs about a lot of vulnerable and oppressed classes of people. Sex workers are one of them.
