He seems to be not perceptive to his influence and the power that influence can bring.

Questioning does not equate to attacking either.

His general statement of "I support black lives" doesn't fully connect with the movement.

it's not enough to just not be racist, it's important to be anti-racist and with a platform as large as his this is disappointing. when you choose to be silent you choose the side of the oppressor and this shows he's clearly more worried about losing fans/follows than he cares about black lives. he's only upset that he's being called out :ohwell:

Unpopular opinion: I reject the notion that social media has to be an outlet for your stance on world issues, even if you have a big platform, nor do I think not posting about them makes you “part of the problem.” Maybe I just joined twitter for the memes and Facebook for the recipes, Susan. Back off.

Clearly things aren't affecting him enough to speak out.

Yes, let’s attack someone for not speaking out, that’ll make things better :laughga: I agree, people should use their voices, but let’s not attack or call out people who don’t choose to. We have no idea their reasoning, and have no idea what they ACTUALLY are doing. Let’s stay focused on the actual problem and the people using their voices for evil; not whether KJ Apa is tweeting or not :messga:

He wasn't attacked, he was asked why he remained silence when he was in a film about the matters BLM stands for. People aren't angry at all celebrities for not saying something. It's the fact that this guy was in a movie about police brutality and never said anything about it. He knows about the problems so he should speak about them.

Being an actor in a tv show for teenagers is a huge responsibility and he needs to show an example.. it's not that hard.. if you don't want to, just leave and change your audience to more adult one.

Come on and wrap that blade of grass around my hairy ass

I really don't get the whole celebrity culture like why we have to make a serious systematical problem about the celebrities and put efforts and time to actually cared about whether they said something, isn't social media meant to be decentration?

But yeah, I don't get good vibe from his tweet.

My problem is people getting more angry with celebrities for not sharing a thing on their feeds that with politicians

Not all of you coming for a mixed guy who's home county has it's own system of racism that has erased and silenced indigenous peoples for a very, very long time lmao :awkney:

This globalist approach to very serious issues like BLM in North America is so problematic and could potentially limit the movement from achieving real change. An actor on Riverdale posting donation links is not going to change the minds of the pigs in power.

It'd be nice if this Elijah guy was calling out actual politicians or law enforcers instead of chasing the ego boost of "exposing" another guy with a decent social media following.

You’re right, I shouldn’t have said attacked, because that isn’t what happened. I do think though calling him out is unnecessary. But that’s just my personal feeling.

I don't get why everyone has to speak on the issues on social media. If someone has an important and unique message to get out isn't it going to swim in the mountains of "I support this and donated personally"? Sure he has an established platform but that isn't even necessary to be heard at this point. Algorithms allow anyone to go viral through several discovery pathways. At this rate we should shame everyone who isn't spamming Tik Tok with BLM info because there's absolutely no criteria to going viral. Do something more productive than trying to call out every person who doesn't feel the need to speak out. You could spend that time liking and commenting posts in order to help discover it through algorithms rather than tearing people down.
