Meant to make a thread a few weeks ago and forgot but still exciting. Yet another Star Trek series is coming out and this one will feature 7 of 9 as the Captain which means it will be a continuation after "Star Trek Picard" set in the early 25th Century. This will be the 10th live action Star Trek Series

Im personally quite excited. I do not get as excited about prequels like Star Trek Discovery (i admit it was well done though) as Im getting tired of them always going back to Captain Kirks time in the 23rd Century

I love the Star Treks that continue the time line from The Next Generation in the 24th Century onwards (including DS9, Voyager and more recently Star Trek Picard in 25th Century). I wanna see the timeline continue

Enterprise was enough as a prequel. It was really well done and I loved it a lot but i think it was enough. Imo we did not need more prequels after that. I have been so unexcited for "Strange new worlds" ive yet to whatch beyond the first episode as I feel Captain Kirks 23rd century era has been covered enough between all the series and movies :neyde:

I find the late 24th century and early 25th century of the Federation in Star Trek fascinating and in some ways a transitional time analagous to our own

The Federation (with Earth being at the forefront) went thru a period of high prosperity and ever increasing health, peace, security, civility, stability and optimistic outlook for the future.

Kind of reminds me of humanity post WWII... the economy in developed world startes booming, war decreased, prosperity increased, stability increase and everything accross the board got better from late 1940s/early 1950s onwars. Then progress seemed to plateau between 1970s and 1990s after which world conditions seemed to have entered decline ever since

The Federation in Start Trek and humanity is going thru a simmilar cycle. Up until middle of 24th century everything was getting better and better. Life expectancies at all time high, no war with other major galactic powers despite some tensions, Federation kept growing in numbers and strength. There was nothing to fear and everything to look forward to

Then the borg appeared... the Romulans started making a come back... the Dominion war occured as well. One conflict after another led to paranoia and xenophobia. You can even see humans started reverting in daily interactions by late 24th century. It was just politics getting darker and more corrupt. People were more abrupt, more impulsive, more rash, less trusting and civil with eachother ajd less accepting of other non human species also (like racism today).

I find the peak in prosperity of the 24th century followed by deterioration fascinating because it so closely resembles today and how mid to late 20th century the future looked so promissing then it all startes turning to sh*t again

i am SOOOOO excited for this !! after the cancellation of ST Academy, Lower Decks, Prodigy (a kid's show yes but legitimately enjoyable), and SNW ending after S5, i am very happy to see another show get greenlit for production.

I agree the heavy emphasis on 23rd century prequels was getting a little tiresome for me as well, which is why i very much loved Lower Decks and Academy as they fleshed out periods we haven't seen before.

Setting a show after Picard in the early 25th century is very smart, the potential for storytelling is vast, if they get writers that understand the trek universe and how to balance that feeling of dark dystopia meets post-scarcity utopia sci-fi optimism (à la DS9 for instance).

Wait SNW is on season 5? I swear it just started :duck:

I have not whatched it past episode one. In fact of the newer Star Treks I have only seen Discovery and Picard with Picard being the one I liked better. Does SNW get good?

Season 4 of SNW airs in a few days, and it's been renewed for a final 5th season next year. I personally really enjoy it, they breathe new life into the 23rd century, and it's more or less an "adventure of the week" sort of storytelling which i like. But given how fleshed out that era of the Trek lore has already been, you can tell there isn't much novelty to be had (although the Gorn storyline is very good).

So yeah aside from a couple of meh episodes, it's been very enjoyable overall! and the updated Enterprise design EATS omfg

i'm fr pissed like by next year when SNW ends it'll be the first time in a decade where no new Star Trek tv shows would be in production, since Discovery in 2017.

to let this second renaissance era of Trek end so unceremoniously while there are SO many stories and timelines left to tell and discover is foolish :bionic:

Rn theres no Star Trek OR Stargate under production and to me thats double depressing :(

At least Star Trek got some temporary boost. Stargate died after Atlantis / Stargate Universe failure and im an even bigger fan of Stargate than Star Trek :madge:
