Watch this story gain traction, J K Rowling find out about Nimbus Coffee, then sue them for using Harry Potter as an inspiration, stand behind Starbucks' decision, then write a problematic essay defending herself and inadvertently diminish the BLM movement along the way

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Didn’t Starbucks already backtrack and allow it?

I agree with Ariana for making a point like this.  But I also don't think Starbucks is being totally unreasonable.  There ARE a LOT of people WANTING to be snarky to BLM supporters.  The barristas would get looks and comments all day and that doesn't make for a very pleasant atmosphere.  It's reasonable to say silence is complicity but it's also reasonable to say this will improve the atmosphere for all employees and customers.  I think starbucks has been on the right side of issues - withstood MANY boycotts from the right, I'm not mad at them over this.

Why do they encourage them to wear Pride badges then? Don’t they get looks from homophobic people? Or have they not found a way to capitalise on the BLM movement yet?

The homophobes have been boycotting for years now.   They consider it too gay to go to, they literally don't feel like they can go there.

The racists still love it

The point was it's reasonable to assume that BLM buttons may have a negative effect.  It's not giving into racists, or accommodating them, it's just not playing their game.  I see the problem, but their reasons to want to stay out of it don't boil down to just money, but rather to keep the mood light.   I'm just saying I'm not mad at them about this, but I understand why some are.

Because if something doesn't fit in their narrative, they don't care..

Well they backtracked and are now allowing employees to wear their own blm tshirts until they provide these tshirts. (Not that I'm excusing the fact that it was an issue to wear blm on your name tag in the first place).. But I work at starbucks, and on our dress code manual it says that we can't wear anything political or anything having to do with social issues unless it's provided by the company. I understand that they should have excused it for Black lives matter, but then the issue would be that an employee could then come in wearing a tshirt or pin that says 'all lives matter,' and that would obviously cause conflict. But it's good that they are providing these tshirt now. I'm excited to get one.

xoxo
