The thing is, they put black music in 'urban' music (which is racist and ignorant), and music from latin artists in latin music. Sure, not all latin music is the same and the category is still not accurate enough, but the reasons behind it are more up for debate, and to call most black people's music 'urban' is just unacceptable. I'm latin btw, and wbk the Grammys only takes into account popularity and numbers and not actual artistry and quality, so I think that what they put on the 'latin' category is music from latin artists that caught the US' GP attention and/or had an impact in their culture. Sure, at this point, they could have a bit more diversity on it, but is there really more latin music that impacts the US that is not just reggaeton or trap? Urban is difficult because it becomes a dumping ground for Black music even though you’ll have someone like, say, Billie Eilish, using a lot of trap and Black music elements in her music and getting a nom in every main category. So why is it accolade worthy in the main fields when a white person does it and gets relegated to “Urban music” when someone who’s Black does it? That’s more the issue at hand. It basically lets white people hop onto Black music tropes and sweep the noms while Black people have to have their own category while making similar music. LOL if you think these award shows give that meaning to the urban categories. So is it city music? Urban categories are an excuse to not award black artists in main categories. So they are relegated to the urban categories, they get nominated for the main ones, but they rarely win them, only the urban ones.
