Addressed below.

She's not pushing any music at the moment.

There aren't any female artists pushing albums at the moment, only singles. I feel like it would be different too if Gaga only had Chromatica, but she has a pretty extensive catalog (example being The Fame charting again). If Beyoncé were to put out an album she'd probably be on the list. Same with Ariana. Maybe even Madonna if her fans stream. Britney might be up there if she were to put out an album and people reconnected with her back-catalog.

But she's featured in 2 current hits and this chart also takes into account social media right?

Aren't you proving my point?

Not really...that's like saying the hospitals are prejudiced against male nurses just because it just so happens to be a female-dominated field.

There is some prejudice that results from this fact, but the prejudice itself is not the cause for it. Correlation =/= Causation

Now, if you say that females are put to different standards in the music industry, then I'd agree with you. But right now there's just no big names in the female rapping scene putting out material. Once Cardi or Nicki come out with something new, I'm sure they'll be on top with these other guys.

The hospital is not the origin of this gender disparity, the society is (because the role of a nurse is traditionally seen as something women do). This is the same situation with the American consumer market on music. I'm talking about consumers here, not the providers (musicians or hospitals). If there is little demand for female-led music, then female artists will be underrepresented on the charts.

Now, about the question of correlation and causation, sure it could be the fact we just don't have many female artists releasing right now. But I feel like even if they did, they wouldn't do well. 9 out of 10 artists on Artist 100 are men? Seriously? You're saying all women are silent for no reason? Does this have nothing to do with the fact that Americans prefer male-dominated genres of music?

We've got tons of young male rappers rising to stardom, but not young females? Regardless of rap or pop or other genres.

It has everything to do with that, that's what I said. Americans right now prefer rap, which is male-dominated. They also have a history of liking country, which is also a male-led genre.

Also, I wouldn't say women are silent, they just aren't producing material in the genre that's popular at the moment. Doja Cat, for example, had a big breakout recently. She has fallen though, but it's been a few months since Say So...Megan Thee Stallion is really popular too at the moment, but she only has one well-known song....

As a side note, wouldn't you say most LGBT people have a tendency to like female-led genres? Are we prejudiced against men, or we just happen to like music that for some reason is dominated by females? Maybe because those genres are associated with sexualization and objectification, and that is viewed as a "female thing" by society? Probably...fortunately this association has been shifting towards empowerment and self-valorization in the past few years.

Yes but why is it that only females in the male-dominated genre of hip-hop and rap get to thrive? What about pop? Is it because pop is less of a 'masculine genre' than hip-hop and rap are? Apart from Gaga and Ariana, there are literally close to no other female pop stars who are able to chart well. Even Beyonce is R&B and urban.

We both agree on the gender connotations under the genres of rap and pop, what we don't agree on is the fact that you think it's a normal thing that male-dominated genres are taking the spotlight, whereas I think pop musicians deserve a place too, and when I say deserve a place, I don't mean a complete elimination of rap/hip-hop, I just expect more commercial success in the pop genre. And no, this is not misandry.

I agree, I hate the new wave of rap music. I'd much rather have a 2009 chart full of pop queens again. But you can't make people like what they don't like... The new generation seems obsessed with these outrageous "hood" rap one-liners for their Tik Tok videos, and that's that. If you go on Tik Tok, most people using pop songs in their videos and memes are LGBT+. And LGBT+ people are a minority in the world.

Yeah and I was talking about how this 'reality' is unfortunate and sad. There is a preference for 'masculine-sounding' music and that, if you think about it, might stem from sexism.

Customers avoid music that sounds LGBT-friendly or feminine.

Back in 2010s, it wasn't feminine to listen to pop music. Tons of men were doing it, but right now men have to adapt to urban/R&B sounding melodies.

Why did this turn into a gender battle. It’s just chart methodology. Gaga released an album and no other female did

When was the last time she was at #1?  And what was going on around the time of all her previous weeks at #1?
