Because I grew up in America and went all the way through school here. And history books in American schools absolutely whitewash including most everything to do with American history. It's literally just pro-American propaganda in schools. There are so many (horrible) things I never learned about American history, including about the genocide of the Native Americans, the Trail of Tears (other than a brief excerpt that explained nothing in detail), the lynchings of Black men following dlavery abolition, Jim Crowe laws, America toppling democratically elected leaders in Latin and South America as well as elsewhere because they don't like them, etc. Everything you learn about the US in American schools has to be presented in a positive, pro-America light. Anything that goes contrary to that or which actually tries to be honest about its history is met with outcries and backlash and is labelled as "anti-America." I have friends across the country whi can corroborate this from their own education and schools, as well as news articles you can search that can attest to this reality. Thank gawd for college and the internet because otherwise I'd still believe the US is just a great country full of freedom that's done nothing wrong. I wouldn't have learned anything I do now. Also, statues whitewash history by memorializing and celebrating horrible people who supported the enslavement of HUMAN BEINGS and murdering them. And this is what you believe?? Disgraceful. Schools only teach war in a moral ethical setting, not in a p*rnographic sadistic setting, which is what many are advocating. Germany starts holocaust education in 6th/7th grade and it is a recurring theme in history until graduation, specifically the way the regime oppressed and killed people and was founded on injustice.
