warhol killah 8,672
She eventually performed the concept of the video one or two times. I think above are some concepts for it. Also her wig in the last video is this wig - where she also wears her Yuyi concept (which might be a reach but Yuyi could have had this hair rather than the teal one we see in Y&I) warhol killer ✴ GAGA¹⁵
JustJames 950
Sorry but there was no “GP connection” to the final version of the EOG video. I was a massive stan at the time and literally had no clue of this video’s existence until the last few years. EOG - a song that should’ve been a #1, era and career highlight - was really the first sign of collapse; it, and the album, were still amazing enough to recover from Judas. While it’s great that Gaga has control over her career more now, this shows why a 24-25 year old needs to be checked sometimes. Someone should’ve had enough clout and experience to have ensured a perfect rollout for this single; a #3 debut for a promo single in 2011 is insane and with the right promo, it would’ve been an inescapable smash of that summer. EOG was the first MV release since Paparazzi that wasn’t an event. Having lost time by not releasing it as a full single from the start, they needed an epic video and the thought of her looking like the Yuyi photo above (all black with rainbow hair) diving off the Brooklyn Bridge would’ve been SO iconic and such an amazing addition to the BTW videography. You and I was a non-event and while I appreciate it in hindsight, it looks like what it was- a mismatched collection of ideas.
Noir 17,212
I'll always find this one of the true enigmas of Gaga's work. I wonder what Gaga and Khan's argument was about? Does anyone have any news on that? I think the original version sounds so iconic but the one we got is beautifully simplistic and her energy is present throughout. I don't get bored of it, which is interesting considering it's just her dancing around a set. But yeah I would've loved to have seen the original idea come to life too but no point moaning about it ten years later.
OMF 3,446
I love the one we got. Perfectly simple yet iconic. Gaga’s clips where becoming increasingly more complex and messy as she was trying to live up to expectations and wow audiences. But the final clip, especially given Clarence died just days after he saw the music video, makes it soo much more special.

I love her forever. Seeing this videos again made me so emotional. She's a legend guys the scars on my mind are on replay.

Miel 15,009
@Warhol Killer put together the videos of performances that essentially revealed (likely) main plot points from the original video concept (alongside Yoü and I). It seemed like it was going to be some sort of dystopian-ish New York setting, with Yüyi being discovered somehow, captured, and likely experimented on. Like U&I, I think a plot point would have been some sort of attempt to make her human? But then she falls in love with the other protagonist, and they flee together. Maybe to the ocean or off of the Brooklyn Bridge (I feel like I read this somewhere?). What we got in the final video probably would have been interspersed throughout, I think, as it was planned to be in there, too. 3 points in and ready for more

I would love to see the original concept, but I think the simplicity of the official video is more suitable for the song. An eccentric video with fifteen plots would have taken away from the power of the song, and it may not have stood well with the general public the way the other version did. I agree. When it first premiered, I had the complete opposite opinion- after all the hype, it was definitely a shocker that the video was so simple. But in retrospect, I really like it. The simplicity and earnest joy of the video really works with the nature of the song, even if the sound of it is so much bigger. The multitude of crazy ideas in the original video worked better in Yoü and I, in my opinion. I think the amalgamation of themes and visuals worked better in a campy manner. 3 points in and ready for more
danilov 288
Knowing this history if TEOG MV, I am so curious and fascinated with how all of her work (especially videos and visuals) came into fruition: which were scrapped, which were changed a lot, which were disagreed on, etc.

I believe the video was to have an epic final scene culminating with Gaga jumping off the landmark bridge to return to the sea, or something like that. JustJames 950
While I get that the simplistic nature of the final MV is beautiful and unique in her videography, Edge of Glory was a masterpiece that deserved much more than a sloppy promo single treatment. After dropping 2 of the most TF/M sounding songs as singles 1 and 2, and the GP began tiring of danceGA and the gimmicks (Judas on Easter), wouldn't you make sure EOG was rolled out flawlessly? It was a new direction; mid-tempo with an anthemic, rock-backed climax, her most relatable lyrics, and best commercial vocals yet. What was the logic in releasing *2* promo singles right after Judas and ~2 weeks before a massive album campaign shifted into overdrive? Hair showed versatility (starting as a ballad + ending as a dance banger), had a gorgeous accoustic version to perform as album promo, and wasn't likely to be a full single. If Judas debuting #10 with 3 days wasn't proof that the hype was still there, Hair debuting #12 as a promo single should've been. EOG did nothing but add to the overexposure that was building, deflate the hype it would've had as the 3rd single, and bleed sales large enough that it debuted #3. The original plot sounds like a beautiful next Chapter in the BTW era, and not at all as if she were trying to out-do herself. A love story that involves an inner battle about changing who she is, ultimately ending with her staying a mermaid and diving off the Brooklyn Bridge would have been iconic and could have been the catalyst to re-launch EOG into a summer smash. The Yuyi love story seems messier in You & I because it was. ANY love story would've worked for Y&I; Edge of Glory, on the other hand, was about looking back at your life and feeling pride about the choices you made.
