He’s actually a good mayor that tries. It’s the police union that will stop anything he tries to do. It’s an awkward place of power.

I’m telling you now, if we want Trump out of office by getting any fence riders to vote for Biden, calling for defunding of the police is one way to ENSURE that doesn’t happen.  I’d be curious to know where this movement got its start.   #thegreathack

That mayor looks like a college student wtf :wtfga:

I literally thought the same thing. When i first watched this video. I was like why is everyone screaming at a college student. Then I couldn’t comprehend that he was the mayor cause he legit looks 22

Well, you can’t see his wrinkles through a low-quality video. Look up pictures of him and you’ll see he definitely looks his age of 38 years, if not even older.

Disgusting take but what can you expect from someone who thinks police brutality isn't an issue because statistics show black people commit more crime but police kill less of them compare to white people. Hurr durr.

Being killed is the worst but not the only thing black men suffer from police. Mass incarceration and jacked up sentences that ruin people's lives, keeping them forever destitute and their children barred from any meaningful opportunities.

When the situation people are raging over is police brutality and systemic racism within law enforcement, you waltz in here and say 'eh, not such a big problem' Focus on other bigger problems. Seriously, go F yourself. (WP me whatever mods, I don't care)

Here's an idea. How about we listen to ACTUAL black people, hundreds of thousands of them, who are screaming out there for justice, and not take **** from you? Maybe try not to rip them off their agency for once?

Also I'm not a liberal so don't bundle me with you love. There are more than just liberals and conservatives, it's not that hard to imagine when you're not a snotty and disconnected twit.

The issue is you can't actually tell we're not disagreeing. I never said that police brutality and systematic racism wasn't an issue and I never said that we shouldn't listen to black people. I actually said this should all addressed in my post but in ADDITION to the other issues that the data shows could actually be more important to the community but many people are too busy playing SJW to actually care to look into. Why are you so devoid of any ability to discuss and understand that you think additional ideas means that your ideas are immediately negated?

I'm sorry you failed to understand any of that and I don't think we're going to get to the best outcome for the black community if we live in your one dimensional world where there's only one idea and you act like an abused animal every time someone has a second opinion and/or wants to inform and add more nuance to the plan. The irony is that you cannot even tell the difference between people that actually want the same outcome as you and those that don't.

I’m confused... I understand & want police reform but are they trying to have zero police? You literally still need someone to enforce the law. Criminals STILL EXIST, we just need laws passed that will imprison cops who don’t follow them. One great example is “8 Can’t Wait” which I encourage everyone to look at & donate to.

How does @SMILE2NE1 posting statistics on police brutality equate to saying police brutality doesn’t exist? And how does acknowledging facts & statistics equate to being racist or an “all lives matter” supporter? I support Black Lives Matter but didn’t know those statistics & I’m grateful they brought them up cause now I know but it doesn’t erase police brutality or systemic racism nor does it excuse police murdering black people. In fact, it only provides more evidence that it exists so I don’t get why you’re raging out over it & calling them a racist? If anything it should encourage certain white people who don’t believe it exists to go protest because white people are also being killed by police. Anyways, here’s a link to a great organization that’s trying to implement meaningful laws to stop police brutality & they show STATISTICS on how it will help. It’s called “8 Can’t Wait” & it will drastically help.

This looks like about 150 people that want some kind of anarchy. Minneapolis has a population of 364,000.  Defund the police is the wrong chant. It means eliminating the police. A defunded police has zero employees. According to the dictionary, it literally means: prevent from receiving funds.

If these anarchists want to say something different than eliminate the police, then they need to use different words. Like cut back, or reform, or reorganize. They really need to get a thesaurus and a dictionary and learn that words have meanings.

Ever notice how right after a crisis, we seem to rally together to beg our governments to pay attention to us, and even though they go months / years / decades without making any true progress toward the things we say matter, MAJOR legislation (or the equivalent) is pushed through at a rapid pace? The Patriot Act was signed 45 days after 9/11. We begged our government to protect us; does everyone agree this act has improved our lives and allowed freedom and democracy in the USA to thrive?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patriot_Act

Amazing how quickly the Bush-era admin reacted to the citizens' calls with this massive act; so massive it almost feels it would have to have been written in advance until an opportunity warranted its promotion. Amazing how much bipartisan support the Act has gotten since, with extensions and additions coming through the Obama years and both D/R-led Houses/Senates.

If there is a systemic problem that is so deep and so widespread that people feel dismantling it is a viable solution, that is only MORE reason that a quick call to action is manic. Reallocating funds to schools and other shiny objects sound great, just as 'freedom' and 'democracy' sounded great when what was being told to us was 'war' and 'death.' I live in a 1-square mile suburb of New York City where the police force is 90% people who went to the town's public high school together. Do you really think that taking away local control and funding of the police force and centralizing it will REDUCE corruption? REDUCE the rate of militarization? REDUCE the instinct to react with force? Centralized banking has done wonders, right?

I am absolutely privileged to live in a 1-square mile town with such a sense of local community values, etc. But, removing the police force in my town and replacing it with a force that has no roots to my town, no ties to my community, and has been trained by the same centralized powers that control the largest, bloated military in the history of mankind will NOT extend that privilege to the rest of my state, region, country.

The centralized reaction to the Dakota Access Pipeline protest is DEFINITELY what we all want to see happen within our local communities, right?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dakota_Access_Pipeline_protests (watered-down summary)

Politicians, media, and other forces in our world are not our allies 99% of the year; why do we always believe them when they suddenly seem to want to listen? Were they listening when we protested the Dakota Access Pipeline?

I don't anticipate anyone will think deeply or logically about this; it's far too easy to just fall in line with the momentum, noise of social media, etc. than it would be to try and think of the implications.

Lmao no, I'm so done with you. You literally came here dropped an out-of-context statistics, which fyi, have been falsely promulgated by right wingers on social media for the past week, and said 'i'LL jUsT LeAvE tHiS hErE' when the conversation was about people's anger over their government reluctance to restructure and defund the heavily militarized police.

Nobody ever fking said this was the end-all of systemic racism. You didn't offer **** to discuss. That was your intention. To belittle people's justified anger over a corrupt system. Your 'fake righteous fake multi-dimensional **** is easy to spot.

So shut up, go back to whichever ivory tower you came from and leave the abused 'animals' to take care of their business. Oh btw, how does it feel to dismiss and refer to angered people as animals? Oh, but my bad, you can't be a racist cuz you're a liberal.
