You misunderstand. What people want is the current police institution to be dismantled. There will still be law enforcement, but they can't yield this level of power. Civil police in the US are basically trigger-happy executioners. That's NOT the responsibility of police. Even if you're dealing with legit dangerous criminals, you don't hunt them down and kill them on the spot. Policemen are not executioners. I repeat. Police are not executioners. People are calling for defunding, so they cannot have military grade killing weapons, so they can't buy each other out of punishment whenever one of them commits a heinous crime. People are calling for reform, so those that join the force undergo more comprehensive training, have their background and history of aggression vetted. The current police institution does not help to enforce the law or protect citizens. They are a fking terrorist organization filled with abusers and sadists that is almost immune from the law itself. Some people in fact want the state run prison system abolished (complete divestment), others want structural police reform, others want a portion of the current funding reallocated to community initiatives preventing crimes at a grassroots level, others are happy with the current cuts announced to police budgets announced by places like NYC and LA (while others want more).. so what do we agree on? Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
