This is literally what happened though cause whenever they post past 4pm its bc the chart battle was close

Yeah it was overshadowed by songs like Roar that were just selling massively, if you see kworb archives from back then you usually see Applause at #2 selling like half of songs that were doing 400k-500k weekly.

I was just trying to keep the fanbase optimistic so they don't give up entirely on keeping it somewhat alive. You won't understand until you deal with tweets asking for streaming parties or "is this good?" everyday.

somehow I feel like we got the #1 in the US in the bag! I feel like her team was actively pursuing that UK #1 with those posters etc...so perhaps they were comfortable about her US numbers and knew she'd snatch that 2nd week at the top as well. What an amazing comeback with "pure pop" bangers! 

Also I cannot wait for her next jazz album. I really hope her next jazz project has some original music. She can compose anything. And who knows? maybe one of her original songs can somehow end up a jazz classic for jazz enthusiasts!
