It's not their fault nor their caretaker's fault a hateful cop did that. Sorry but you can't disagree with both. I agree the child should be safe there in theory. But haven't the events that have transpired in the last 48 hours showcased that maybe, just maybe it isn't the safest place for a child to be given the police's behavior? Moreover, NEVER did I say either the kid was at fault for being peppered. If you read my comments above, I didn't say that anywhere. However, I would still question the choice to bring a child to a riot like this. That was my point, which I will continue to stand by. Is the caretaker directly at fault for the kid being peppered? Of course not. The cop physically peppered the kid. But is it a questionable choice to bring that kid there to begin with? Unquestionably.

They're the ones who are supposed to keep everyone safe. And I know you don't disagree with that, I'm just saying that I see blaming the caretaker as something contradictory given the context of it all, and the theoretical duty of the police officer. And no, stating that fact doesn't diminish the fact that this cop should be fired and charged because, again, who tf maces a CHILD Whimsical bitch

In terms of whether or not people should expect it going in... eh I'd say it is always better to plan for the worst as a parent or guardian when it pertains to a minor. Given available information, I don't think it was a rational decision to bring the kid there. And like you said, it does not diminish or negate that the cop is directly at fault for pepper spraying that child.

Emvee 8,845
If you don’t agree with the child being there, then you don’t agree with anyone being there. Your so-called “support” of the protests is void.

Your so-called “support” of the protests is void. That's nonsense. If you are an adult, you absolutely can put yourself into a situation which may not be the safest. In fact, protesting should absolutely be encouraged! However, for a child (especially one as young as the one that was pepper sprayed in this horrific event), someone of-age must consider the child's safety as paramount. Looking out for the safety of a minor does not act as a measure of one's support for the protests, let alone make them void. Such a premise is simply ridiculous. JusKeepBreathin 19,311
I don't think a child should be at a protest but that's besides the point. Cops should mace children. PERIODT I am so angry.
