I'm not surprised confirmed cases would be like that tho

Young ppl are disproportionately much more likely to get it very mildly or no symptoms at all and less likely therefore to get tested and confirmed

It doesn't mean the real number is that under 40 people are only 30% of cases

Besides under 40 also includes kids and young teenagers not going to school or too young to hangout with friends. They will bring down the average for under 40 as well doesn't mean millenials aren't guilty of not being careful enough

We need to be careful when we interpret numbers. It's like when Viagra uses numbers like 40% of men over 40 experience ED to normalize it and sell their product...

At 40 the percentage will not be 40% of men with ED it will be lower, but men aged 80 will be much higher than 40% will be lumped in the same age group the way they are presenting the numbers

I'm always wary of how statistics are presented cuz details matter in the messaging :enigma:

Haha, that's one of my clients. I work in marketing. ;)

This, but people have to truly isolate themselves if they’ve been exposed. And for this to work, we’d need better contract tracing, which many westerners are against.

Also, people need to wear masks when they’re around people outside of their household, and too many people are refusing to do so, at least in the US.

Imagine how forced isolation would go down. Riots would break out and it'd all be from that small vocal group of idiots that don't understand how things work.

I like Trevor Noah's analogy for the mask thing. He compares it to people saying "I don't want a car with breaks and that's my right as a free American!". Because your breaks don't just protect you. No one wants your free ass flying through their windshield.

It's crazy how reckless some people are.

Yeah, that's the problem.

The other issue is we would need to have testing on a regular basis, and we would need funding for those tests, and also funding so that people who test positive or who come into close contact with someone who tested positive can isolate for two weeks (or longer) without losing their jobs. The pandemic is exposing so many flaws in various governments around the world, while also showing that certain places (like New Zealand and Taiwan) have the infrastructure in place to do things right (no cases of local transmission for weeks in either nation if I am remembering correctly).

Targeted quarantine and testing is the answer honestly.

Test EVERYONE. Have you tested positive or been exposed to a positive person? Isolate yourself. When you test negative, you're good to go.

The shut downs are only because our leaders failed to do that :nails: especially ours. Trump said something like "one of our staffers tested so well for so long then boom, she's positive out of no where, and that's why testing is bad". That guy is in charge :smh:

Test everyone is imposible. We never did that with anything. Not to mention that if you dont test everyone on the same day, the effectiveness is zero.

Think about the flu. This is supposed to be more contagious. Can any country in the world test everyone for the flu today, this week, this month? No. If we cant do that with the flu, which isnt new, we surely cant do that with this one.

The damn video of how crowded Trinity Bellwoods park in Toronto is took the #1 trending spot on YouTube. Miss Corona is really ruining everything. :saladga:

I noticed that too...

Of all the videos to steal the #1 trending from ROM of course it would be something related to corona :rip:

Better that than another competition video I suppose :laughga:

If they are doing more tests, it's no surprise that the numbers are rising.

I don't think testing has increased that significantly lately in Ontario tho

They supposibly increased capacity but ppl are going in to take advantage of that capacity so I don't think it has anything to do with the amount of testing at least in my Province

The data should be somewhere available, but you have to check it because the media won't go behind the "number of cases are rising".

I cant say that I'm too familiar with how the situation is in Canada. There is also that theory that if you closed too early the number of cases will rise as soon as that country starts to reopen. It's different from place to place.

I don't think the issue is just funding it's more competence to organize than anything else

Governments are spending an absolute fortune keeping economies on life support. Here in Canada were anticipating a minimum of 10 years worth of deficits for 2020 alone

Testing is a cheap way to help the situation and I think if it was easy as just throwing money at testing capacity governments would certainly spend more than they have been on it. It's a drop in the buckets compared to other stimulus measures

But these things always have complicated logistics. Buildings have to be made available to do the work in, scientists hired to do the work, management, a system to look over the entire work etc

So it takes time and careful planning to build up that capacity it's not just throw a bunch of money at it and bam you got all the tests you need

And I imagine that's where many Countries are failing more. I think most are perfectly willing to spend more on testing they just haven't been organized enough to actually build it up faster

This is all very true!

It's interesting to see which places have been able to continue on without decimating their economies while also keeping the virus in check, but I realize that most of these places (New Zealand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Caribbean nations, Hawaii) overall have comparatively small populations and are easier to isolate from the rest of the world. It's much harder to manage a large, populous country without taking stringent measures like mainland China has.

(Yes, I know that HK and Singapore are densely populated, but ultimately they're small compared to the entire US or Canada.)

God Control

The same idiots who underestimated the disease and laughed at those who took precautions are now at it again, reopening out of greed and carelessness that will cost hundreds their lives and undo all the progress achieved during these times spent at home.
