That guy is in charge Well here in Canada our testing capacity still isn't high enough to fully rely on that method. It's mostly symptomatic people or their direct contacts that get tested In some Countries their testing is more advanced and can target quarantine better But i agree it's a very big part of the solution cuz lockdowns alone are not sustainable for very long Some estimates already say 40% of restaurants will go bankrupt in Canada. I hope that estimate is wrong

That guy is in charge Well, hes not 100% wrong, you can test negative today and get infected tomorrow. Testing negative = youre good to go, only works if you get tested like every few days. Testing is more to track the areas in which the virus is spreading than it is about telling individuals to isolate themselves or that theyre "good to go"
Economy 52,853
Just now, Maleficent said: 70% of cases are in adults 40 and over and ppl still blame millennials/gen-z for being "out and about" and "not wearing masks" I'm not surprised confirmed cases would be like that tho Young ppl are disproportionately much more likely to get it very mildly or no symptoms at all and less likely therefore to get tested and confirmed It doesn't mean the real number is that under 40 people are only 30% of cases Besides under 40 also includes kids and young teenagers not going to school or too young to hangout with friends. They will bring down the average for under 40 as well doesn't mean millenials aren't guilty of not being careful enough We need to be careful when we interpret numbers. It's like when Viagra uses numbers like 40% of men over 40 experience ED to normalize it and sell their product... At 40 the percentage will not be 40% of men with ED it will be lower, but men aged 80 will be much higher than 40% will be lumped in the same age group the way they are presenting the numbers I'm always wary of how statistics are presented cuz details matter in the messaging

HausofGabo 1,289
Everything's a mess here in Chile. The government is lying about the numbers and we entered a full quarantine just two weeks ago, when it was too late. 85% of the beds are occupied (according to the press) and the results are taking way too long (10+ days). Which is why he pushed so hard against testing in the first place. @Maleficent ^ The proposal I saw was testing every two weeks and tracing from there but obviously this "I'm free! #NoMask #NoSocialDistancing" people wouldn't consent to that. I guess our only hope is a vaccine. That doesn't save compromised and at risk people from stupid jerks who refuse it but it's something. Cuz it also varies a lot in other Provinces too It would be more accurate to break it down by major cities and metros but I guess because Provinces have the most authority in dealing with this, they report the situation based on Provinces without usually specifying which areas are actually the specific hot spots girl mtl has re opened more slowly than elsewhere

Also, people need to wear masks when they’re around people outside of their household, and too many people are refusing to do so, at least in the US.
