ApplauseftAdele 4,730
For Chromatica, it's finally clear what kind of era we're getting, and what kind of Gaga we're getting. Gaga always channels a persona for every era. For The Fame, it was this femmebot, pop culture robot. For TFM, she was bizarre. For Born This Way, she was a rebellious kindness punk. For ARTPOP, she was very artsy and "deep" to the point of being pretentious. For Joanne, she was stripped down. And now for Chromatica, she's almost like a saint of dance music. Like, it's clear in her Zane Lowe interview that she has officially taken on a new "alter ego" for this era, one that is purely driven by dance, and she wants to free the entire world with dance music. The whole era is finally coming together. We're gonna get lots of pink, lots of kindness and liberation, and LOTS of DANCE MUSIC. Every era has it's own style, and with Chromatica the theme is straight up DANCE. Like almost every song I feel is gonna be upbeat and electric. Its so interesting to me how Gaga takes on these different personalities for every era and presents her vision uniquely. When Stupid Love came out, I thought she was gonna serve us a normal pop record, and I was a bit underwhelmed. We were all a bit confused as to why she chose Stupid Love as the lead. But now it's obvious, she just wants us to dance, and Chromatica is a planet where everyone is free and its a party everywhere. When Gaga starts a new era, we always want her to recreate something from the past, or channel a former era, but she always surprises us, and this time she is giving us PURE club music. When we look back on her career, the Fame will be the album of hits, The Fame Monster will be the album where she channeled darkness into pop, Born This Way will be the album of rebellion and loving yourself and dark industrial beats, ARTPOP will be the crazy, ravey, artsy chaotic album, Joanne will be her stripped back acoustic album, and Chromatica will be known as the album where every song made you want to get up and dance. Stupid Love was the perfect lead for it - its a brainless, thumping club anthem that has no deep meaning, and that is lowkey the essence of Chromatica. I agree up til the "no deep meaning [being] the essence of Chromatica". I hope we still do get deep meanings though, lol. This has always been Gaga's forte, to embed deep meaning in a what can seem shallow, one layered pop songs when taking it at face value.

axelwolf 114
Alice is Gaga's Chromatica Ego, Alice in Wonderland(Chromatica). She talks about Alice the song with Zayne, so going by the full on pink hair I'm assuming we're meeting Alice. AxelWolf

Not really what I meant I guess I worded it wrong. I mean it’s clear that the album is about healing but there isn’t exactly a storyline or “deep” meaning to the same vein as Joanne or Born This Way. It’s primarily about letting go of the darkness and dancing. You can tell because of the song content, stupid love rain on me and Babylon are all wildly different subject matters so while individual songs might have meaning, the album as a whole is really just about dancing

It's like The Fame, even Born This Way, the lyrics really reflect on personal struggles whilst over a dance beat. I love how this album is deff going back to The Fame roots in the sense that each track has that pop joy that only pop music can bring, She has wrote deep lyrics but in her usual style that's masked in metaphors. I love her newest stuff so far, I love that it isn't preachy, I love that you can drink and dance to the tracks but I also like how lyrically its very real but has been written to suit the pop formula. Amazing, seriously Gaga is back! AxelWolf

That’s just what I wanted to reply. Even SL had a deeper meaning of wanting to be loved and being vulnerable and tsking down walls in order to be ready to accept love when it appears. axelwolf 114
Chromatica is a metaphor this world but also it incorporates BTW & ARTPOP, in the sense its all about escapism. Gaga deals with trauma through an artistic perspective. ARTPOP is all about dissociation "just do that thing that you do; I'll undress you" "my heart can beat with bricks and strings", this is all about trauma; Venus single cover, she has cuts on one page, or her facial expression is blank. 'When you touch me I DIE, just a little inside, I wonder if this could be love" Gaga has always had fxcked up relationships; when someone goes through severe trauma, in order to survive, they'll associate pain with pleasure/love. Born This Way - half way between fantasy and reality, an album dedicated to fighting for your voice/identity and embracing your pain I.e. marry the night. So Chromatica is essentially Gaga's psyche, just like the MTN video, where we see HER perspective, the same concept is in Chromatica and just like ARTPOP it has dark themes masked in dance music. Read the lyrics without the beat and you'll see what I mean. AxelWolf

How she's flirting with the idea of sobriety but she's also owning her drinking problem and acknowledging the circumstances leading her to this point. That's deep. The pop ensemble is the book cover which covers a deeper meaning. Everybody is free to just take the songs at face value or dig deeper - that’s what makes a lot of Gaga’s pop songs so intriguing to me. Well dissociation is basically our brains natural way of surviving severe trauma. It's essentially an outer body experience. Now basically when you experience trauma, the emotions, the anxiety and the ADRENALINE can be so intense that your mind takes you to 'the happy place' aka wonderland. Introducing Alice. What you've said here reminds me, I have one small problem with this song Alice the way she was describing this in the interview, which is that Wonderland is not actually a happy place. It's a place of anxieties and mental illness and it's a bit of a nightmare. Maybe she didn't read the book? I hope this doesn't affect my enjoyment of the song the meow in zombieboy

I hope this doesn't affect my enjoyment of the song you're spot on but its about finding the happy place during/after the pain. its what all of us do during tough times, we exhibit this behaviour specially through things like music. Chromatica is essentially Gaga's mind & happy place. Where she goes to create music and also where she goes to escape. If anything knowing this kind of makes me love the album more because the songs are something you could genuinely have a good time to but at the same time there's real substance, a real message AxelWolf
