Just wanted to make a thread for those who don't follow numbers closely.

As Italy and Spain's numbers of new cases dwindle, new hotspots are emerging across the globe.

Official reported numbers show that as of May 16, 2020 Russia and Brazil are currently the places with the most ACTIVE cases outside of the US, which remains #1 in total cases, deaths, and active cases.

Active cases:

#1 USA - 1,075,305

#2 Russia - 206,340

#3 Brazil - 122,861

Total cases:

#1 USA - 1,495,614

#3 Russia - 272,043

#6 Brazil - 222,877

Is Brazil’s president taking things seriously yet or not

The minister of health just quit his job yesterday because Bolsonaro was forcing him to use fake news as scientific proof that everyone can go out in the streets. He was only in office for a month since the former Minister of Health quit his job for the same reason :vegas:

R.I.P. Brazil.

I feel that our country is falling into a black hole, there’s no hope at all.

Not only the health care system is in trouble, but it feels like there’s no one in the government capable of doing things right.

Brazil has abysmal testing numbers compared to everyone else. Especially since they're 2nd to the US in numbers. They'll be breaking 1000 deaths per day soon. And at least Russia has fairly good testing. Possibly due to their China connections.

Yes and it was happening. But the sequence of domestic crisis made it to another direction.

This year our currency devalued around 44% in relation to US dollars. This is insane.

the cruelest part about this situation is that b*lsonaro and his allies know exactly what they're doing: killing the poor working class.

Exactly. He is doing it on purpose and nobody stops him.

It’s like the society is frozen, he’s taking advantage of the lockdown restrictions to create more crisis without any possibility of people who disagree his statements going to the streets to protest against the government.

Brazil has a political problem. Russia is becoming a "hotspot" because it does a lot of tests.

The number of cases is not important these days. We know that 90% + have no or mild symptoms. The number of deaths is more important, but even that cant survive a legitimate comparasion because countries count deaths in different ways.
