LOUDER

Why the shade tho?

Anyway, who cares, I just want to enjoy the full experience. It may take a while to get some dance-pop music from Gaga after Chromatica.

I just pray for good numbers enough to keep Gaga and Interscope excited.

My name isn't Alice but I'll keep looking for Wonderland.

Oh, he's in the Hive. He literally said Gaga's records are not bulletproof, but her tours are. And then he said this about Beyonce:

Beyoncé really is bulletproof—she hasn’t had a big pop smash in years, but it doesn’t matter in the least. She’s a cultural icon and can fill stadiums without releasing music. Whatever she does, the world will go on kissing her ring. Even so, insiders say they wouldn’t be shocked to see new music from her by year’s end.

That makes no ****ing sense at all.

This is off for a few reasons: With all these other albums we weren’t in the middle of a pandemic where people are afraid to leave their homes. And when they do, they aren’t going to buy CD’s. Next, pure album sales have dropped around 45% since ASIB. Next, her stadium bundle is only for 4 dates. Next, she hasn’t had a real hit. Next, she isn’t culturally relevant like she once was.

This is off for a few reasons:

My local Targets are just as busy, if not more busy, than before the pandemic hit. Also, I'm going to go buy the CD. So are many others. So I don't know who you're specifically talking about? Middle-aged moms? Well, they weren't going to buy the album in the first place.

Pure album sales have gone down in the industry, sure, but when artists release store-exclusive physical CDs, there's typically an uptick in album sales. (See: Lover, Fine Line ((which had exclusive Target vinyls that increased Harry's pure sales)). Gaga has also included some huge artists on the album, which guarantee an increase in streams. When the hundreds of thousands of fans of Blackpink, Ariana and Elton go to stream those specific duets, I'm sure they'll stick around for another track of two.

Next, I completely forgot about the stadium bundle! Thanks for reminding me! There's at least 50k more sales if like 1/4 of the fans redeem the album.

Next, Stupid Love went Top 5. And I, as well as all of my friends who don't even care about Gaga much, love that track. Sure it doesn't fit in the with the Top 10 on Billboard right now (it's not a rap or RnB song) but it still was a hit in my mind.

Next, are you joking? She's more culturally relevant than ARTPOP, Joanne or Cheek to Cheek. What are you drinking? Are you forgetting the super bowl? ASIB? The Oscars? Golden Globes? MET Gala? Sold out Vegas residency with the most expensive tickets on the resale market? The fact that she now is able to sell out stadiums?

Precisely why conversation about chart performance is arbitrary and irrelevant. People want it to inform certain artists' viability but not others.

If anything, I'm grateful for Beyonce proving massive success even though her singles underperform, and her album sales are comparatively modest. There are several different ways for a musician to be successful and own mindshare and she's one of the best examples.

Personally, i think the record will slay. I can't wait for her to prove the haters/some of you wrong, I don't understand people saying theres no excitement around the record ? when she announced the date, people were excited and she's more than likely gonna release another single. Never count Gaga off, she has a plan more than likely.

She has sold signed copies.

She has offered stadium ticket bundles.

She has merch bundles – her best merch to date.

She is posting some of the best designed graphics of her career to hype it.

She organized the largest fundraising event for all of COVID-19 which put her in the good graces of millions.

And you have no idea if she intends on releasing another single this Friday or next.

What are you doing with your downtime during quarantine?

Love your positivity, but given the current pandemic that has put life on hold, I just don't think her numbers will be as strong as they would've been. Concerts aren't happening until the end of next year - and that's best case scenario. Millions are out of work - less disposable income. Merch really only appeals to stans, it won't garner extra sales. Graphics don't sell album copies. They're the only thing creating some sort of hype.. but she released them after they leaked. As for her being in the 'good graces of millions' re: OneWorld, I sure hope so but neither you or I can know for sure. It's an assumption. I hope she release a single/video prior to the albums release to create some actual genuine hype.

I don't have any downtime amid this quarantine. It's been nothing short of awful for me. I hope it's been kinder to you.

The Pros:

She's consistent with first-week sales. ARTPOP, Joanne, and ASIB were all in the 200k range so theoretically she should continue the trend. Additionally, she's always been great with pure sales which helps in a period where people are streaming less than usual.

Amazing merch bundles. She and her team know exactly what they are doing by releasing a Chromatica jockstrap and thong.

Better streaming numbers. ASIB established her streaming presence- it currently has a round 2.7B+ streams on Spotify which is pretty great. Even Stupid Love has 100M+ streams which is respectable.

Good will. Her advocacy lately has put her in a great position lately in the public. She gained respect with ASIB and cemented it with everything she's done recently. People like her.

The sound. So far, it looks like Chromatica may fit into the sorta retro electro/synth-pop sound we've been seeing. Also, something fun and bright is perfect for summer and will be great for those partying in (or out of) quarantine

The Cons:

Obviously coronavirus puts a dent in a lot of things. Minimal promo, postponement, people will be more weary to go to the store to purchase a copy and might not have the money to spare on something like an album etc.

Tying to my last point, general uncertainty. We live in a time where some people don't know how they will provide their kids with food. This uncertainty and existential anxiety is overwhelming and many people aren't focusing on anything but survival right now. There is a part of the population that may ignore it because they have to focus on just being able to live.

There's 0 buzz or promo.

She still hasn't released a single promo single. She's not doing 200k. This era will underperform.

And Stupid Love was a bad lead single.

Yeah corona ruined everything, she also didnt perform SL while she could, its like she hates doing lead single promo since Joanne or smth lmao

Oh she deff is gonna get more than that with Ariana and BLCK pink on it its deff gonna do way more than that. I think 200k pure sales she might get. Lets not forget that her last era was really succesful and she made a lotnof new fans from that. Given all the publicity she got for One World Together at home.
