And to the xenophobic racists who are so jaded by hate, I hope you will one day open your hearts and minds. Even if you don't like something, respect other people's tastes.

BTS fans love them for the very SAME reasons we love Gaga - meaningful lyrics, good quality music, stage presence and a sincere love for their craft.

Ok then let them go on BTSdaily. Idk why discussions like these are allowed to take place on a Gaga forum. The minute I saw this thread I knew the OP would just defend BTS at every comment. I wish there was a lock on comments on threads for people who can’t take others opinions. :saladga:

firstly, with this whole 'bts only became popular because one direction stopped being popular' argument... just no. the serious marketing strategies employed by big hit entertainment began years before one direction split up, and the target audience for bts were very different to the target audience for one direction. one direction targeted 'the basic girls', it was a group that had a very simple teen crush image and had very little creative depth. bts is different, bts targets 'outsiders', they have lyrics about the struggles of youth and finding yourself, with a very creatively inspired artistic image. two completely different groups. simple.

secondly, whilst i very clearly understand the struggles of idols being trained and the cruel strategies employed by some companies (which kpop fan doesn't, it's forced down our throats every two seconds), it doesn't diminish the fact that they're a very independent group who create their own material. marketing strategy is employed by any western label too, it doesn't mean that western artists are manufactured. bts simply are not manufactured either.

and as a footnote, the term idol is one that's been used by korean media for decades, go back to the 90s and complain about its usage there if you have such a problem with it, you aren't gonna get people to stop saying it now, since it's a term used in everyday korean life.

Fair enough, i see your point, i think for the most part you just said what i said with a different perspective

i'm talking about how they're seen by the GP, the western world doesn't understand their lyrics, i guess you'd have to be outside the fandom to see the equivalence.

and the semantics issue is really my lack of education on the subject

what boils my blood is these people that won't even @ you on the thread y'know

anyways, stream woman and camo
