Well her team obviously needed some time to crate a new promo campaign that fits in the current situation. The pandemic is not ending anytime soon so it makes no sense to keep waiting and postponing it to an undefined date

Sad but true, but also the US is WAY bigger than any other country in Europe, and I guess that makes it harder to control. Smaller territories are easier to be covered by a functional healthcare system too, so there's that.

First week sales are the most important though because that's typically when interest in the album is at its peak. So that's where it has a shot at going number 1 and that is a huge deal to a label. Then it's easier to market as "#1 album" or "From the hit album" and it means they have seen a return quickly and more promisingly on the album.

When she postponed was a time when the US was starting to explode with this virus and was a time of great uncertainty.   Now it is in the secondary peak phase, more treatment is understood, a vaccine is closer and globally over 1.3m people have recovered so far.  I disagree that it is getting worse, but obviously it is far from over.

Not that easy, they probably also had to follow up with cancellation for a lot of things, contracts, flights, possible reschedules etc.

Two reasons:

1. One World concert. That took up a lot of her time and energy. Raising $128MM and gathering up dozens and dozens of different artists and celebrities is no easy feat.

2. Rework her promo. It's obvious that she had tons of stuff planned for Chromatica. Blade said that this era was going to be 2nd only to BTW in terms of promo. She needed time to reschedule stuff.

I don't work for Interscope so I don't know what she has planned to promote it but I'm just curious what could she do differently this time that she couldn't before? She still can't go on the late shows and do live performances and meet and greets. Everything still looks like an online rollout.

We know she had big surprises in store for the promo, she said so but when the pandemic hit those plans went out the window.

If I had to guess she probably didn't want to release until the pandemic is over so she could continue with what she had planned but considering that could be months away and the era had already begun, she had no choice really and the best she could do is postpone it until they can think things over and salvage another form of rollout that they are somewhat happy with.

It's actually the first time she releases signed albums herself and it's coming in 3 weeks. Europe is already opening little by little so they will at least get some sales in Europe. Hopefully she manages to get the #1 on the BB hot 200

Plans were made for more live performances and a huge Coachella set. All of these would have been MAJOR promo. So eliminating them was a huge blow to the strategy, so with the extra time they could reformulate plans so they could have a bit more promo through digital presence and social media. Notice how many big accounts seemed to randomly tweet about Chromatica yesterday with similar wording and even emojis after the new date was announced. It's almost a given that they have turned to using partners like that to promote the album now to make up for the lack of social media presence that would have resulted from the surprise Coachella set and Apple concert. Things like that do make a difference. Also a lot of shows that are still airing were just getting a new groove going on how to handle things - remote interviews and even at home performances should she do them are able to go much smoother now that there is a "new normal" so to speak.

Yes but they weren't released instantly, they were sold a couple of weeks after to try and get the #1
