That's so sweet I never knew she tweeted that. She's like always singled out as the most disturbing part of 5F2. I hope the girl saw this and doesn't feel bad over people misunderstanding her. If you're actually around Latino people you'd immediately clock that it's just a term of affection. She basically said "A-yo ma, lemme get an autograph!" I hear it all the time: At the cafe: Mami, whatchu need? Running for the bus: Mami mami, you dropped something! After a conversation: You have a good one mami. You never heard someone being called papi? It's the same. Even Anthony Ramos' character in ASIB calls Jackson Maine papo ! I just feel bad that she's misunderstood to be a creep on an international scale for saying a very common, very NY thing. 1 hour ago, platinumpixels said: Lol that reach: whether it's mami or mommy, it's weird. That might have even been the back door of that same building ( a fake-out move that would 've cleared all those ppl from the street who would think she left left). LMs have done more just to get a glimpse of Gaga, let alone right next to her for an autograph, so. "She's an intellectual, your honor"

This is a Netflix doc which means it will never be pulled from the site and is seen by an international audience daily. It's a simple subtitle edit. If enough of us mention it, they may move on it. Especially if it gives them the opportunity to do some cheeky joke about it on Most for Mothers Day. "She's an intellectual, your honor"
Schwerk 7,247
The edit was pretty intense but I didn't find it weird she would call her mommy or mami. What I cant really get past is people like her always waiting for Gaga outside her home. Not just an event venue or a recording studio but her actual home! Its tempting if you live in NYC when she did and because she stops quite often, but I still feel it's too invasive to wait outside her home and yell for her attention when she steps out the door. According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

I get what your saying but that was Electric Lady studios. And even if it was her apt (like in other scenes) that's just what happens cuz the sidewalk isnt private property. Then everyone knows your address and then the lookey-loos start to gather with the fans and with no back exit or underground garage (the one amenity she says she needs to buy another NYC apt) you gotta show your face to clear it. Police and security cant really do much about you being there, other than crowd control and putting up barricades. I mean... she chooses to do that. Nobodt forces her. So if anything I guess it was a wake up call for her I mean I get that but nobody chooses to be bullied and she was BULLIED. And Gaga and the director both should have picked up on how something like that could literally destroy her life. Nobody forces people to be overweight but you wouldn’t tell them that getting bullied is a “wake up call” right? Fresco 1,688
Mommy is not common everywhere. Around here kids stop saying mommy around age 5. Mom is much more common and only for actual birth mothers. The mamacita variant is never heard or used. Why even bring this up? Five foot 2 was a documentary. It was an accurate documentation of actual events. She called LG mommy in a strident voice intending to be heard. She was heard. It's what she wanted. It is what it is.

I don't know where you live in the US but, like I said, it's super common to hear this in the NYC area or, I suppose, wherever Latino culture/language is very prevalent. I bring it up because I believe she was misunderstood and people have, are or will continue to judge her harshly and unfairly (read dragged and bullied) over what's highly likely just a cultural misunderstanding. Like I said, as long as Netflix exists, this doc and her face, will continue to be seen by an international audience of millions. She didn't ask for these few moments in her life to be filmed and dispersed to millions of people until the end of time, but it has. The least that can be done is to try to ask Netflix to exercise some geocultural insight, have a little mercy and give her the benefit of the doubt that it is as plausible that she was saying "mami", as it is she was saying "mommy", and change the subtitles. The film is an accurate documentation of events but a transcribers understanding of the local slang within it may not be. Its literally changing three letters in a subtitle editor. That's all I'm saying. "She's an intellectual, your honor"
