Interscope CEO: Promoting during a pandemic is not that difficult

In terms of the actual operation, making and marketing records, getting songs on the radio, dealing with the streaming platforms, etc., is inherently more difficult in a situation where there’s no face-to-face contact. How does business go on?

Surprisingly, it’s not as difficult as you might expect. We have a lot of artists who are self-sufficient as far as recording on their computers or having home studios or finding other ways to be creative. We just sent one of our bigger artists a home rig that can easily be set up, and then the vocal engineer can remotely punch that artist in and out when they’re recording the vocals. We’ll see how it goes.

I sent a note to the company four weeks ago telling people that this is where we need to push to be creative on both the marketing and the music sides and not just check boxes. In terms of how we operate, we should always be thinking outside the box, and we constantly push to do that. But more than ever, this is a time when we’re forced to do it. We can’t shoot videos the same way we usually do. We can’t do in-person promotion. We can’t just go into a studio and record a song. So, on the overall creative and relationship fronts, how are we thinking outside the box and doing things differently?

As if we didn't already know this delay/silence was 100% on Gaga, not Interscope.

This is amazing. I wonder how this wave of "quarantine" productions will turn out in a few months. Hit or miss tbh we will get to see how creative and talented they really are

Gagaism

That’s fine, I agree it’s not that difficult to promote music, but it’s still hard to get video music or anything related that need multiple people working to have a promo properly done.

I think Bobby/Gaga want the Chromatica delay more than Interscope does. I'm just guessing, but maybe Gaga doesn't find promoting and working from home creative and she's not wanting to settle. They had a lot planned so to change all of that to basic boring home promo is probably upsetting. Let her release it when she wants and when we can get the promo she planned to give us.

EVERYONE: before you all assume this means Gaga was the only one who wanted to delay...

I think it is very clear Interscope wanted to push it back a month to give them time to adjust all of the promo, and Gaga ended up agreeing (to focus on philanthropy and because she felt weird releasing a dance album when all of this was starting). All of the insiders confirmed that Interscope execs were worried about losing tons of money if they didn't have time to come up with new forms of promo. Like HAIM said, things feel different now than they did at the end of March

Y’all remind me of that Black Mirror episode with Miley. Half of you would be more than happy if Gaga was chained to a machine as long as she’s manufacturing pop music.

Interesting... :oprah:

Also just because Gaga is silent doesn't mean her and her team aren't doing anything
Calling her lazy while she's probably stressed trying to have a smooth album roll-out is not nice :grr:

I can guarantee as soon as she releases a new promo single / single she will go full Chromatica mode feeding us left and right :vegas:

If this ain't Interscope basically saying all projects are still coming and in the works, I don't know what it is. They still need to make money at the end of the day and continue striving so this might just be an indirect way of saying you know, Chromatica is still very much happening.
