Why male muscians have longer lived careers?

Why is it so much easier for male artists to have a long-lived career than it is for female artists?

Maroon 5

Bruno Mars

Coldplay

Justin Bieber

EMINEM

Imagine Dragons

Drake

Pharrell Williams

Also why are male musicians amassing more wealth than women?

The fact that the majority of the richest people in the music industry are male is disturbing with names like Dr. Dre, Jay Z, Diddy, Paul McCartney always ahead of everyone and not even Madonna or Celine Dion are at their level of wealth and that is insane!

re: the wealth thing, i’ve heard that Madonnas wealth is severely undervalued because she has a lot of artwork that is never countered into the equation. it’s rumoured (by her brother) Madonna’s “net worth” surpassed a billion quite a few years ago but Forbes still values her at 600-800mill.

As for Dre, Jay, and Paul they all have various business ventures that most pop girls don’t (except Madonna and Bey).

For longevity, I think there’s a double standard for their age (no ageism) and less pressure on them to constantly “rebrand”. I also think male musicians can avoid the limelight because they themselves are not the main attraction, there music is what 99% of the GP cares about—whereas for women, the GP is deeply interested in their personal lives, allowing for more scandals and overexposure

One reason could be better record deals. These men are magnets for women. The old men that runs these labels are not and lives off these men who have unlimited access to women. You do the math and see why straight men happens to have better record deals. As gaga said the music industry is like a f*cking boys club.

I'm probably just delusional but why not :bradley:

I like what you wrote but why do you think people are not as invested in Adam Levine or Bruno Mars love lives as they are on Gaga´s, Madonna´s, Rihanna´s? What do you think it happens at a sociological level?

So you think their wealth might come from their female fanbases?

I think there is still this remaining shock value of “i can’t believe she chose career/money/fame over being a housewife” from a (mostly) bygone era.

I think there’s a lot of fascination with women in power, and it’s become a novelty. Would Devil Wears Prada been half as interesting if Miranda were a man? No

I also think there’s still a lot of stigma around women having lots of lovers/partners, whereas society expects and accepts it from men.

May be because

1. They have to spend lots of money on beauty products and fashion compared to male (except Few like Adam Lambart)

2. Male get much more money than female in music industry.

3. Male have better profit sharing agreements (I can't vouch it)

4. Most of the male save and invest money to generate more money rather than spending it. Women tend to spend good amount of money to enjoy life right now (as everyone should). (Don't drag me)

I think a lot of the media/GP think (however sub/consciously) “you gave up motherhood/domestic bless/settling down for a career, let’s see what you have to show for it”.

I also think there’s still a lot of stigma around women having lots of lovers/partners, whereas society expects and accepts it from men.

I agree with you 100 percent, but funny enough I remember that Gaga was so big (still is oc) that her personal never overshadowed her career, I mean of course she was asked about if she was a man or if she was dating but in general the GP really only cared about her empowering message and her music.

No I think the owners of labels treat male musicians better because of the unlimited amount of women these male artists can provide to them. Again this is just ONE reason in a whole basket of them. @Maleficentmade a really good point and it probably the main reason.

But I truly think that because of favoritism, male artists have more leverage and are able to be more flexible and embark on more entrepreneurial endeavors.

As far as spending goes male muscians are known for speding LOTS of money in very expensive cars and have kids by the dozens. I am sure that´s more than what dresses and make up cost.

I was actually started reading about the death of Irrfan Khan and then all of sudden I was reading a list of the richest people in the music industry and the majority were men. As far as the ones with long lived careers those were the ones that came to my mind.
