I’m lowkey surprised and relieved so many people dared to ‘criticize’ Britney’s “legend status” because she seems to overhyped on GGD sometimes (in general tbh). You can deny she is a pop icon, but a legend? I honestly don’t see how someone that doesn’t sing live, is a a rather mediocre dancer compared to peers like Janet and has almost no creative input in everything she does would be considered a legend. Yes, she has bops and has enjoyable music, but she is nothing special besides that imo. Maybe if she stopped being a label puppet after her first album, but she stayed in it for her entire career. Unlike other artists who went their own way after playing the label-game for one or two era’s.

Davian u r iconic! But your opinion will never be objective! This might sound horrible and mean but you should abstain from commenting on Britney becuz obviously yiu dont think with the right state of mind. Its like a Katy or Madonna fan commenting on Gaga, not realistic.

Each artist entered into the entertainment industry at different times, with different forms of demand, limitations, publicity mediums, and at different ages and skill sets.

So to put them on this theorized or imagined hierarchy is like trying to peg Galileo, Issac Newton, Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, and Albert Einstein on the same scientific legend status which is the other side of projecting societal worth for someone at different times, ages, and skill sets.

Compare these people, but recognize that each artist is different and that Madonna, Britney Spears, and Lady Gaga are all world famous by their own merit, opportunity, and demand.  Will they be remembered far into the future like we remember Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach?  It is highly possible they will be recorded in history for the chart and sale benchmarks they achieved, for the awards and recognition they received from institutions and other artists alike, and the huge following they drew for in all likelihood the rest of their lives and beyond.

Do your own research.

I love all three Madonna, Britney, and Gaga. But I really hope Gaga doesn't follow in Madonna's footsteps. Gaga in a way has surpassed Britney in terms of cultural impact and being a more talented performer. If Gaga wants to be in Madonna's league, she has to keep showing how much more talented she is compared to Madonna and not just be a pop star her whole career. I mean being more versatile and create music other than pop, show how talented she is in acting, do Broadway, Oscar worthy films, a musical, a glam rock and jazz albums, be more experimental and creative in pop.

Gaga is a legend PERIODT.

I don't need to rank them. I like them for different things.

I love so many Britney songs and performances (those moves!). She really is the definition of sexy femme fatale. Favourite albums are In The Zone and Blackout. Favourite song will probs always be Baby One More Time. Favourite performance is the Slave 4 You VMA one with the snake of course. Favourite video has to be Toxic.

Madonna has the longevity! There's so much to love. It's sometimes like seeing another artist with her work (Gaga has done that successfully too). But I particularly love Madonna in her 40s: Ray Of Light, Music, American Life, Confessions On A Dance Floor. All these albums and the tours during her 40s are the Madonna I love. She has some of my all time favourite albums.

Kind regards

Also just to add:

Madonna and Britney are definitely better dancers, but Gaga is a better singer.

It's not a dig at any artist, I love them for different things.

Kind regards

not madonna, but sorry...she's far exceeded britney. britney's career was really only 1999-2003, and then a brief (hype-based) comeback in 2009-2011.

:awkney: ammm no...

OT tho.. No she's not.. Maybe in another 10 years but now? Nah..

Britney is not pop royalty, a legend, or even remotely close to either.

Britney has been doing her thing for more than 20 years and is still one of the most recognizable pop starts there is.. Every generation knows at least 3 of her songs and everyone is aware of how big she used to be/is. So..... She is pretty much a legend right there with Madonna..

They never had her acclaim and respect and as of today, are only referenced as the archetype of a manufactured pop star, whereas gaga is a legend so yes she left them far behind

There was a time in 2003 when Britney was almost going to become a legend. She was the leading teen pop icon of the late 90's, Baby One More Time was already an iconic pop hit, she had memorable music videos and performances at the VMA's, she was the MTV golden girl like Madonna was in the 80's and everyone was waiting for her to grow up and become a more serious artist. Then she kinda blew it in 2004, she became more known for her paparazzi scandals and having a public breakdown. Sure Toxic was good, Blackout is probably her best album and has a cult following among her fans. She had that little comeback in 2008 but if anything she just showed that the best years was behind her. She's a terrible performer now and has failed to be relevant to pop music since Circus unlike Beyonce whose become more famous the older she gets.

I think that Gaga is in a league of her own.

But to compare, She's definitely going to be a Madonna/Barbara Streisand mix of a legend.

Exactly

Not Madonna level for obvious reasons such as time, number of hits and albums, etc...

Closer to Britney level and Gaga is catching up since Britney hasn't been the same since 2007 in terms of wide public appeal...now she seems to be a novelty of pop music during the 90s and early 2000s...no shade but Britney still has a plethora of hits to warrant multiple Vegas residencies

Gaga to me is so eclectic and has such a wide range of talent she supercedes Britney and Madonna in her own unique way...and she ha only been doing this for over 10 years...imagine the next decade

She’s exceeded both of them imo, the only thing Madonna has over her is sales and even that’s gonna go downhill since tour bundles don’t equate to album sales anymore .

In all honesty, I feel like we’re living in a different world now. We don’t have the homogenous culture that the likes of Britney and Madonna dominated via mainstream media anymore. I think it’s unlikely we’ll see another music star with the same level of mass appeal in the general public. If anything Gaga was the last big star and she’s done focusing on diverse artistic output rather than branding which is a good way to go.
