Both the sound and the social messages would be seen as basic by now, imo.

Not really tho. Maybe the title tracks theme has become more basic but VERY few people have yet to address transgender issues or topics like immigration laws the way she did in this record. Sonically it's also still up to date.

Oh totally. I remember very well. I was embarrassed for her. If it were released today she would be ‘cancelled’ in 5 mins :awkney:

Honestly, I even cringe a bit when she performs the song now. Considering she’s going to be performing it until she dies, I feel like maybe she needs to replace it with something else...

I thought she said Biracial for years lmfao.. i mean it would fit :awkney:

Don't be a drag, just be a queen
Whether you're broke or evergreen
You're black, white, beige, biracial
You're Lebanese, you're Orient
Whether life's disabilities
Left you outcast, bullied, or teased
Rejoice and love yourself today
'Cause baby you were born this way

No matter gay, straight, or bi
Lesbian, transgendered life
I'm on the right track baby
I was born to survive
No matter black, white or beige
Biracial or orient made
I'm on the right track baby
I was born to be brave

I mean, it could certainly fit nicely within the song!

Pop music in 2011 still had that dramatic, campy, "performative" quality to it, so BTW fit right in.

God I miss that so much

She released that album at the peak of her popularity. Everything was about her. I don't think it would have made the impact it had if it was released 10 years later. Although I do think the music on BTW is vastly superior in comparison to ARTPOP and Joanne.

As we all know, Gaga has always been ahead of her time with her art/music so

I stopped reading after this.

It probably wouldn’t be as iconic because BTW itself was a big part in normalizing talking about these issues in music. When Gaga started doing it, everyone else did.

That said, it still has its moments where it can still be very powerful even today. She directly acknowledged transgender validity during her Super Bowl halftime show simply by performing a song she had released 6 years before. BTW the song’s lyrics are very upfront and I don’t think others have been as upfront as it was even today.

Am I wrong?

No. Thats why i dont even want to imagine BTW in 2021. She had a perfect timing.
