Hyperballad 4,309
so it’s a ”bad song“ because it’s sad? I think I love it for the same reason some dislike it; it’s sad, gritty, grim, and she sounds (or at the time) so different

xoxo Craig 55,649
Dope is a nope from me. Sonically, it doesn't fit the album for me. ARTPOP is a predominantly dance heavy record, every song is supposed to be danced too. And I'm not opposed to having songs to mellow things down, so don't get me wrong. But, Dope is a piano ballad at heart yet for some reason they tired to make it electronic. It was a half way measure between the dance heavy EDM sound of the record, and a piano ballad... which doesn't work in my opinion. It should have been left as a piano ballad, add a guitar and drums like in You And I. Then, I have issue with her vocals. They don't sound very pleasant imo... and I get thats the aim it was going for. Her words are slurred to echo the feelings of being drunk. But for me, its not pleasant to hear. Not only that, but lyrically I just can't connect with the song as I have never been down the road of drugs or alcohol. Then, we have the original ballad "I Wanna Be With U" which was debuted at the iTunes festival. This ballad is what Dope should have been in every single sense of the word. My only criticism of IWBWU is that some lyrics are cheesy, but again, its not that unusual for Gaga. Sonically, it much more pleasant to hear than Dope. Her vocals sound great, the song is a little like Yoü & I but there is some depth to it. And its something that we all as a fanbase can relate to. The theme of it is very similar to that of Gypsy so its not like it wouldn't fit into ARTPOP. It just feels a major let down having knowing what it could have been. And finally, when you compare it (Dope) to all her other ballads, its 100% her worst one. When you think about it, Gaga gave us Million Reasons 3 years after Dope... and Million Reasons is better lyrically, sonically and vocally. So yeah, I just can't vibe with Dope at all. AnglerfishbraBENUS 5,734
Honestly IWBWU is was great and a remnant of a version of ARTPOP that never existed, but DOPE is fantastic. So raw and honest.

And she did this a lot on the Joanne album. Million Reasons can be whatever you want it to be, it is upto the listener to decide what it means. For someone struggling with mental health, it could be a song about not giving up or giving in to those suicidal thoughts. For someone questioning a relationship, it is suitable for that. And the list goes on. Sonically, it has guitar drums and piano. Just perfect. End Racism Now

Its better than having a piano ballad and forcing it to be the same sound as the album's sound. I love love to have a ballad like Yoü & I, or if we were going with a more electronic sound, then have one like Before I Cry.
