Can we talk about starstruck?

i'm sure this has been discussed multiple times but like

how was this NOT a single??? Flo Rida was about as big as he's ever been, she was blowing up, the song not only screams hit, but has a kind of nostalgic 2000s vibe that's hard to pinpoint – it almost doesn't even sound like her, but god i love it. a BOP that i find myself coming back to year after year, and i feel kinda sentimental about and can't really describe why.

thoughts on this unreleased megahit-that-never-was?

I am going to be honest. As much as I love Starstruck, she made the right decision to let Just Dance grow and let Poker Face get to its way. Just Dance aged like fine wine while Starstruck didn't. Just Dance is organic pop, that compliments both instrumental and vocalization.

I'm like some kind of supernova

Was probably gonna be a single after Paparazzi, but Gaga recorded Bad Romance and wanted to get it out as soon as she could.

It was originally actually intended to be the second single if Just Dance flopped riding on Flo Rida's coattails if i remember correctly. Because of it's more hip-hop/r&b sound, had her Electropop sound not taken off. That's why she used to perform it a LOT with Just Dance before The Fame got released.

They then wanted it as a single later but Flo Rida didn't wanna make the music video for reasons I don't recall.

TLDR; It was made specifically as a backup song with Flo Rida attached in case she needed his help to become big.

Boys Boys Boys was gonna be the next single but Interscope rushed for a followup album era because they figured no other song from the record could crack the top 10. Idk if BBB would've cracked the top 10 anyway, but that's why she tried to make a big deal of it in her live show when she started doing her European festival tours. Then obviously Bad Romance happened and she announced TFM.

Ah, I knew this. I don't know why I forgot about Boys Boys Boys almost being a single. Imagine the world we would live in if she had waited a few more months before releasing Bad Romance. It's very likely that Paparazzi, Bad Romance, and Telephone all would have hit number one with different timing.

I think she bailed on The Fame era at the right time, because she had four consecutive hits and had been peddling the same songs for almost a whole year by the time Bad Romance came out, I think it came at the right time.

Imagine what her album would've been like if they went with the original idea of Retro Physical being the lead single and Fusari producing most of her album.

Both great songs. They cant be compared though. Summerboy’s a proper retro summer  rock track, Starstruck sounded like a product of its time. Hip hop tinged glistening pop

it was her first album track to be certified Platinum on it's own, it sold 1M copies when they started including streams i think. I think the only other song she has that wasn't a single to be certified platinum is Always Remember Us This Way. And Dance in The Dark is her only non-single song to get a GRAMMY nomination too i think.
