Obama's role in ending primary revealed

For months, Obama had kept in close contact with senior party officials, in hopes of preventing a repeat of the protracted and nasty 2016 primary race.

Then, in the weeks after it became clear that Biden was the party’s near-certain nominee, Obama — telling a friend he needed to “accelerate the endgame” — had at least four long conversations with his former vice president’s remaining rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders. Obama’s efforts to ease the senator out of the race played a significant role in Sanders’ decision to end his bid and endorse Biden, according to people close to the Vermont independent.

I feel this was the perfect time to do it.  Giving unity to both candidates while Trump is to distracted to attack them.  Genius

Obama also spoke with Buttigieg and Biden after Pete quit his campaign to coordinate his endorsement of Biden.

Another reason why Bernie lost the nomination.

Not surprised. There's very little difference between Obama and Biden. They're both corporate Democrats just like Hillary. Obama would just lose a ton of respect if he announced his support for Biden while Bernie was still in the run. It was all a calculated move to keep Obama's strong independent support which very few other major politicians have. Honestly can't blame him tho he knows how to work the game in his favor.

Bernie himself and his campaign weren't perfect and had a flawed strategy.  It was destined to fail.  This is coming from someone who supported him in '16 and '20

Can't really point fingers at one person/group of people

I was one of those who said '16 was rigged in favor of clinton, but at least it seemed bernie lost more fairly this time (although not completely)

the dems timing and roll out plan of bernie, obama, and even warren coming out was pretty well though out tbh. it really helps draw out the contrast to trump during this time.

Obviously. There are many reasons why he didn’t get the votes, one of them being all of the moderates coalesced around Biden and propelled him to win the nomination

Yes I agree with you. His campaign was flawed I’m not denying that.

But one of the reasons why he lost was because all the moderates backed Biden instead of Bernie.

i hope liberals can come together here.

i know, not the best candidate by all means, more like someone who was at the bottom of my list, but biden is what we have, and i stand behind him now for the reason that donald trump got thousands of people killed because he wouldn't do anything about the coronavirus for two whole months. and that's among a long list of things he's done and among a long list of things he will do, should he win again.

and please don't @ me if you disagree with me or refuse to vote for biden, i acknowledge that that is your right to do so, and there's nothing anyone can do about it :/

I would recommend (and anyone reading this post) reading this article on sanders campaign:

one of the points it makes is that they didn't bother trying to expand their base from 2016 & were banking that the moderate vote split.  You also don't win a party nomination by attacking the party itself.  I was rooting for bernie and voted him in super tuesday, but he played stupid games and won stupid prizes.  Kinda insulting to some of his followers, including me, if you ask me

Bernie's campaign had extensive outreach to the Latino community this time around. He won California and only lost Texas by a few points.

Latinos are usually removed from the conversation but let me remind you we are the biggest ethnic minority in this country and over 70% of us vote blue in elections.

I'm not going to be claimed an expert (because these are just my assumptions) and will admit it's a lot more complex than you or I talking about, but you're right he had more outreach with latinos.  But I don't think he reached his hand far enough for the anti-clinton people, who now had more options at hand.  And Joe is arguably a much more likeable person than Clinton.  If he had a time it would've been in 2016, sadly, but that's the past.

Bernie not only greatly increased his outreach with Latinos he also reached out and grew support from Muslim communities as well.

You don’t win a nomination by attacking the party? Tell that to the tea party Republicans that got their way when they rose to prominence. Anyways he was pointing out the corruption in the Democratic Party. I don’t see why that should be taboo. Any corruption should be held accountable.

Bernie brought the Democratic Party further left where it’s been pretty right wing for the last 40 years, brought increasing the minimum wage to the forefront, influenced a new wave of popular strong progressives like AOC and made M4A popular all over America. Those don’t seem like stupid prizes to me and I don’t see how any of that is insulting
