My humble opinion is that grimes music is v polarising, hence the results, and maybe 4am is not as polarising as other songs. Bc we cant agree in which songs are what bit I think we can all agree this album has bot absolutely awesome and kinda boring songs

@bowie1986 I remember thinking this song reminded me of "We're The Kids in America" with it's propulsive energy, but also directly recalling the "Kill v. Maim" car chase scenes with the kick-drum in the pre-chorus / chorus. All in all, I think it's a really fun and catchy song. I initially found the lyrics and the intro/outro kind of useless, but I'll revise that statement because I think the intro and outro help make the genre-hybrid work and the "you're gonna get sick / you don't know when"  absolves the song of any lyrical complaints.

@tomsches That's the one song I always skip... I don't know, I tend to like Grimes's more ethereal work. This one doesn't do it for me.

@Andreu I love the contrast between the two sections of the song (the delicate and the harder dnb one). I like this song too, but I wish the vocals were different because at some point they get kind of annoying to me, not gonna lie.

@efrs291 This song is straight up art. When I first heard it I had it on repeat for like a week. The primal/jungle drums in sync with the baseline??? Delicious!

@ororo munroe This song drives me crazy, especially the hook, so addictive, and verses are so stunning, this song takes me to the Venus

@GayPrideUnicornThe chorus just has this unique feeling of movement that I love.

@Sestri Levante Wow, this one was also a messy one for me at the beginning. I hated it, but it just happened to grow a lot on me, and I learned to appreciate C's extra side on this one.

@littlefreakster This is a great track, for, like, running like hell. If I still did cardio it'd be my favorite.

@adterp I  hear Indian influences in it? I dig the song, especially in the conditions the song describes as 4AM is the most special moment of the day when you are awake; you loose track of time, space and the reality start to shift. This song is speed, this song is sweat, it's a great track for your next escape-from-a-bad-situation.

@Ctouf I still remember the first time I listened to the album and when this song came out. At first I was like "well, that is interesting". Then the rhythm drastically changed and got me shocked. I liked it even more. I love how the track is built. Very original.

@BradleyCooper The production for this song is insane and my favorite of all of the songs. I feel like I’m an intergalactic hindu goddess being vortexed into a video game simulation where I have to conquer a virtual kingdom.

@Lois Griffin One of the most Grimes songs on the album. A highlight, but I won’t give it a 10 because I think there are parts that could be done better. Perhaps some more lyrics, like those that were featured on demo, would’ve been a good choice.

@bowie1986 People were so critical of this song when it first came out and then, slowly, in a revisionist history, would cite it as their favorite song released before the album. This was one of the best songs released in 2018. The lyrics in the bridge are so cogent and spooky. It's such a cleanly produced track and, besides how repetitive it feels (which fits the theme of it's authoritarian roots) it still resonates as tight song that exists within a world of it's own.

@tomsches Very meh song, glad it's not on the album!

@Andreu I love how strong it sounds! Deserved to be on the physical copies.

@efrs291 Love the demonic chants

@ororo munroeProduction, vocals, lyrics, everything about WAP is amazing, I need more songs like this from Grimes

@GayPrideUnicorn This song was the first I heard from Grimes (was a bit disappointed back then when I realised this was her only post genre song lol) Iconic post genre bop. Would have gotten 12 from me if it was feat. Poppy.

@Sestri Levante This track is in my opinion the best Grimes song. The harmonies contrasting with the heavy riffs and the deafening screams are amazing. It feels like it was yesterday when it was released, but it stills gets me speechless like it did the first time I listened to it. A legendary nu-metal ethereal pop bop

@littlefreakster I don't think it's as listenable as the others in the long run.

@adterp Loved it last year. After hearing it for the first times, I thought Grimes was going full nihilist, political and angry for the album but left me kinda disappointed in the lack of substance and direction of it all. Back to the song, I enjoy the hard bass-line and industrial sound. This song as last makes me wonder if she was trolling most of the time lyrics-wise, by only playing clumsily with morbid metaphors, cynical positions and not so much her actual lived tragic experiences (apart from DF and BTF). I need depth. Still this song is a banger.

@Ctouf In love with this one. I love the rock-n-roll touchs in the instrumental and the "whispering" moments when the music is softer than in the rest of the song. The transitions between the different parts of the track are really paradise. This is a good way to end the album. I love HANA's verse even though I can't help myself thinking that Poppy would have been perfect for that last part of the album. Such a magical experience!

@BradleyCooper This song definitely set the tone for the rest of the album when it was released and it’s the perfect closing song. Amazing, iconic, kickass. The only reason I didn’t give it a perfect score was because I’ve over-listened to it so much that it’s no longer my favorite.

@Lois Griffin An exhilarating song immersed in fresh themes. I hope she continues to embrace this rock sound in the future. How can you not love this one? It’s a shame things didn’t work out with Poppy because she is written all over the bridge. “You’re not even alive if you’re not backed up on a drive” is a great lyric.

Well I'm quite surprised this metagrate went kind of the way I wanted it to go. I +/- agree with the rankings of the songs. Thank you for your participation and thanks to @FfFfFfFF for organising it!
