Ticketmaster Quietly Changes Its Refund Policy

Ticketmaster has quietly changed its refund policy to cover only canceled events — not the many functions that promoters have indefinitely “postponed” or rescheduled to a date/time that some ticketholders cannot make.

Previously, Ticketmaster’s refund policy stated: “Refunds are available if your event is postponed, rescheduled, or canceled.”

Now, however, the Live Nation company’s refund policy simply says: “Refunds are available if your event is canceled.”

Earlier this week, Digital Music News was the first to report that an angry customer had filed a class-action lawsuit against ticket-resale platform StubHub, over the brand’s opting to provide vouchers (instead of cash refunds) for tickets to events canceled because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

In a statement, StubHub noted, “It is currently impossible for us to offer immediate cash refunds to all buyers.” It’s likely that Ticketmaster is experiencing similar fiscal difficulties, albeit on a much larger scale. (StubHub moves approximately $5 billion in tickets annually, whereas Ticketmaster’s yearly sales volume has exceeded $30 billion in the past.)

I understand why they did it but I don't agree with this at all.  It just seems like they're taking advantage of a horrible situation the entire world is in.

Always use your credit card and report it as a fraudulent charge if they won’t let you get a refund.

I understand the purpose but Ticketmaster is not slick. They are trying to make some financial gain and benefits out of this.

This makes me happy that Enigma and J&P was canceled instead of rescheduled like it was initially. Hopefully they'll keep the promise of having presale codes for previous ticket holders.

Ticketmaster in general though I loathe, especially in the US. Its disgusting how much they profit of of reselling and there by basically denying true fans the experience to see they're favourites. The whole reselling for major profit business, even fan to fan, is disgusting if you ask me. Just because its encouraged by Ticketmaster or because everyone is doing it, doesn't make it ok.

Ok sorry for my off topic rant. I just really hate TM

Oh that's some bullsht. I get that they will take a big financial hit from this, but average consumers can not and should not be expected to act as money lenders to big companies here. It's not our job to bail them out or prop them up. Gross.

No. First you try to see if Ticketmaster will give you a refund. If they refuse, that’s when you contact your card company and tell them it was a fraudulent purchase.

Wouldn't that be fraud at your turn as well?
