Good to know.

My opinion is it's NOT generic, but it IS basic and lazy lyrically.

what is the distinction between generic and basic?

So I would say it's generic for Gaga but not generic for the actual market. I do think SL is a perfectly calculated sound to announce and prepare for her pop comeback, the next single should be more adventurous (Babylon sound fresh as ****)!

I think we are all going to be quaking in our boots when there are several songs on the album that are 100x better single choices than what we've heard of Babylon... The beat is cool.. the lyrics are semi-catchy.. but not single worthy imo.

generic sounds like everything else

basic is just very simple.

SL doesn't sound like everything else, but the lyrics are very simple.

Generic? No. In the sense that it doesn't sound like most of the songs on the top 40 radio.

Basic? Yes. In the sense that lyrically and melodically the song is quite bland, especially for a lead single, and if any other pop girl released it 90% of you would be dragging it.

It's not generic. Nothing Gaga does is generic. The closest she has come to generic is The Cure but that's because it was a ASIB reject. Everything that she does is fresh. She creates trends, not follows them.

That being said, SL just feels...lacking. It doesn't have a signature, big Gaga chorus. And the lyrics are simple.

"I was protected by the monks of Azarath, I was raised by my friends. They are my family, this is my home and you are not welcome here."

Yes. For her. Honestly it sounds like an AI was asked to write Gaga a song after processing all of her music, interviews, movie, etc.

Widows Kiss

Yes.

lazy, basic, bland, generic, uninspired, lifeless, empty, dull, soulless, a shadow of her former self

I know that the album will be much better than that.

Smother Em Eh

I would say to an extent yes it is, but mainly due to the boring and basic lyrics.
PI had better lyrics

it's pop but with techno/disco/funk influences. It's mainstream but it's Gaga, Gaga is very experiemental in what she does. Stupid Love appears to be a mainstream generic vibe on the surface but it is so much more than that to Gaga and that's what makes it different imo

Just Dance is sad and bland compared to stupid love. Maybe it was something "amazing" in 2008, but now it's old and tired; like most of The Fame tbh :vegas:

Agree a whole lot
