Given the rapid rise in cases in Sweden and an already higher death rate than the rest of Scandinavian Countries, Sweden which is one of the last holdouts on lockdowns in Europe is finally considering tougher measures

The Government is drawing up legislation to allow it to take "extraordinary measures" sometime next week if they so choose

Sweden which has over 6,000 cases so far for a Country of around 10 million people is a concentration equivalent on a per capita basis like the US having over 200,000

A small silverlining... At least they will provide the world on data on a different outcome with their more lax strategy :enigma:

The population of the country is above 10M tho

I know 10.12M according to google

I edited it already. I wrote just under when I meant to write just over

So I just changed it to around 10M

The end results of the two different strategies will be interesting. Italian and Chinese studies suggest that the percentage of asymptomatic people is quite high. On the one hand, by being lax Sweden could acquire herd immunity way sooner than other countries. On the other hand, they could have an higher death rate than other countries if their health system ends up overwhelmed.

@Economy the problem here is that the government takes decisions from what the health organizations says and they never take decisions themselves anyways and the health organization says that lockdown is very unnecessary...

Tbh this country is full of bullschet now

I would have thought health organizations would be the ones pressing the most for lockdowns

Oh girl, they decided to close all schools here except the ones with kids from the age 6-12 and some high schools. The amount of delusional out like everything is open here and everything is a mess because we literally got 59 new deaths one day not too far into our fight against corona and the health organization took that as irrelevant to care about that much

I am quarantined outside of Stockholm (the capital of sweden) for 3 weeks now and I had to go in to the city today to get some stuff from my apartment and chile let me tell you...

... people were walking around like nothing had happened, it was crowded, a lot of old people were outside minding their own business like miss rona wasn’t sneaking up on all of them.

this is what happens when you can’t take drastic meassures. The government has been too slow to sound the alarm so a lot of people don’t seem to understsand the issue

Well I guess we will still have to see the exact turnout of this

The I think the PM of Sweden did have a valid point about sustainability. We can't just stay in lockdown for the next year and a half till a vaccine comes out

We may find eventually what most of the rest of the world especially developed world is doing will not be possible to sustain and may have to be more lax like Sweden who knows

One thing seems clear. The lockdowns are not gonna chock out the virus because it's too contagious. Even one person remaining infected will just start a new wave in no time so it's not like the lockdowns can end for very long if we wanna comit to the current route

I'm not sure governemnts even really have a long term plan for this. They are doing emergency economic measures for a few months but this is not gonna last just a few months :toofunny:
