every 5 years or so, there seems to be a brand new generation of chart-topping pop girls for the world to enjoy. but which one’s the greatest?

i’m only 16 so i can only go as far back as the late 90s in detail, but here’s what i could decipher:

late 90s/early 2000s:

Britney Spears

Christina Aguilera

Beyoncé

Vitamin C

P!nk

Bonus: J-Lo

Mid-2000s:

Nelly Furtado

Fergie

Rihanna

Gwen Stefani

late 2000s/early 2010s

Lady Gaga

Katy Perry

Nicki Minaj

Kesha

Arguably, also Rihanna

Bonus: Lana Del Rey (a year or 2 too late)

mid 2010s (arguably, the driest):

BeBe Rexha

Charli XCX

Iggy Azalea

Ariana Grande

Megan Trainor

late 2010s/early 2020s (still open/pending):

Lizzo

Billie Eillish

Cardi B

Doja Cat

Camila Cabello (ugh)

Dua Lipa

No doubt late 2000s / early 2010s.

It was very diverse.

We had a dance pop artist (Gaga), a country hitmaker (Taylor), a R&B pop artist (Rihanna), a visual icon / powerhouse dancer (Beyoncé), a ballad singer (Adele), a sex icon (Katy), a pop rap crossover (Nicki) and an alternative artist (Lana). I'd also add Kesha on being an artistic kind of woman.

I'm like some kind of supernova

Late 2000s/early 2010s was the peak of pop music imo. It's getting worse and worse after that...
I can't believe we are comparing Lizzo, Camila, Cardi B etc... to Britney, Beyoncé, Gaga etc...  This generation's pop girls is so mediocre

BeBe Rexha??? Come on, delete it.

I think pop girls are a dying breed, because pop itself isn't what it used to be. Pop isn't cool now like it was in the 00 and early 10s. So we don't have rising pop girls.

Also I'm a Billie fan but I really wouldn't call her a pop girl. She is an alternative artist, she's not gonna get on the stage and SERVE anytime soon.

Replace Bebe Rexha with someone else, and then add Halsey somewhere between mid-late 2010s, then this list is pretty spot on.

late 2000s/early 2010s is the correct answer here. They are the ones who changed pop music completely.

Gimme More

Early 2000s were the BEST -  100%

but late 2000s and early 2010's were good too.

Irrelevant

Everything except mid 2010s is good. Late 2010's still isn't it but I'm excited to see where it could go.

Still true. She was every man's dream back then until 2017, but that doesn't matter because it was already Ariana's era then.
