HausOfG 1,560
One of the most heartbreaking things about this nightmare is that our elderly are dying from it. They don't deserve to be put at the back of the queue and treated as acceptably expendable. If the initial information had said that it was children, teenagers or even under 40s who were more susceptible to it then you can be sure people would have went into isolation quicker. The trauma that families will have to work through living with the fact their parent or grandparent died alone and scared will be immense. What do you think how the deep the recession could be if 800,000,000 million people (aka 10% lethality at a 8 billion world population with an out of control viral spread) just died within 2-3 months suddenly. Not to mention the irrepareable damage this would to every country's healthcare system. Just in case you forgot: hospitals are still operated by humans that are susceptible to covid-19. Hospitals are already understaffed, badly payed, overworked, with insufficient equipment. Doctors and nurses are not immune to dying from covid-19, imagine how dire the situation would look if 10-20% of all hospital staff would die. That would REALLY spiral things out of control in terms overall lethality AND would damage the health care services for decades to come. Propagating an uncontrolled spread in order to save the economy just shows that you absolutely haven't thought about the people who are actually on the front lines fighting. I think we're over the "1%" mortality rate by far now, the only countries that hover around the 1% number now are Germany, South Korea & Austria. 5-10% is way more likely, which is like... way more than 70 million. South Korea is the only country that you mentioned that handled this well to be honest, Japan even straigh up lied about its infection numbers for weeks so that the wouldn't have to postpone the Olympics. Your comparisons are all over the place. First you compare Sweden ( 10m, ) with Norway and Denmark ( 5 m population, a lot more restrictions), now you talk about the lethality rate, when in Spain 10000 people have died, while in Sweden 300 people. So for you, places where there is one case / one dead are worst than Italy and Spain because it has a higher lethality rate? Sorry, but not for me. I understand that some restrictions need to be put in place, but when you compare Sweden with Norway and Denmark, it is a legitimate question if the results are there. And u dont want to believe Japan, but you believe China? There isnt only one way to try to solve this. No one really knows what to do. We wont know who actually did better until it ends. Guest
Weird bcs they said that only the vulnerable had to quarantine, so this doesn't work? It would be dumb if people actually met these vulnerable people on a daily basis and didn't follow the rules.

That's because a lot of people have it without knowing it. The mortality rate is considered to be at 0,6%. It is estimated that for 1 case there are 5 -10 other people who have it and dont know about it. At 0,6%, it is still more dangerous that the flu, so some measures are correct to be taken. I'm not sure that the extreme measures are correct.

I agree with you accept hospital staff is not underpaid. They are actually paid quite well- at least in America. Not sure about other countries. But yes, amen to everything else you said. You are not getting the point. I compared the amount of covid-cases AND the lethality rates of Sweden in comparison to other Scandinavian countries and figured that Sweden's non-existant restrictions are going to push the country into a situation that will be comparable to Italy's, Spain's or France's right now (healthcare collapse, triage, skyrocketing death counts). Denmark & Norway (even though they have way more relative cases in comparison to their population) seem to handle the crisis better as the current numbers of deaths suggest (That might change in the future however). That's what the point of the comparisons really were: Lax restrictions, low government intervention = many dead people. Ever since I made that post Sweden registered almost 1,000 new cases and another 50-60 deaths. Also nobody even brought up China in any way, that is your own doing. Japan obviously lied because they were afraid of losing the billions they invested in the Olympic Games, China obviously lies as well (as one definitely should expect from a dictatorship). VertigoRogue 267
Hi everyone I am Swedish recovering from Corona welcome to my ted talk please feel free to ask whatever you want jokes aside. I am pissed about how Sweden is handling this pandemic. If people would practice social distancing my whole family and I wouldn’t be infected right now and the numbers are waaay higher, they don’t test the population, only the severe cases who visit the hospital. Me and my family is still not confirmed corona virus cases because our symptoms have been mild compared to other people

Sweden has had very few restrictions. Not every country has spread the illness at the same rate. Even in the US, some states have had very little issues with the disease and haven’t imposed lockdowns, while others less than a few hundred miles are out of control. Then, BAM- sudenly the state with little issues becomes a hotspot. This has happened in Michigan, Louisiana, Georgia, and others. And you somehow magically think that Sweden will escape this disease? Especially with no restrictions? Sweden has been lucky until this week. Unfortunately their lack of action is causing a spread that will certainly increase over the next week. Slow doesn’t overwhelm our medical system to the point of complete shut down. Months buy time. Time to replenish medical supplies, to get testing done, to figure out better ways to treat the virus. In months to come, those who have survived the virus and those who had it and were asymptomatic (which we can know with future widespread testing) can start going out again. It will be a slow process, but one that won’t kill off millions of people in a country and kill off all our doctors and hospital nurses. Not to mention our first responders. I guess you are fortunate enough to not be in any of these categories or have any one you love in these categories. Most people do and care enough about those risking their lives every day to make sacrifices.
