However, this may now have proven to be a fatal error as covid-19 is now quickly spreading in Stockholm, especially to the most vulnerable to the disease. The elderly in retirement homes. Retirement homes in Stockholm report a "widespread outbreak" with over 250 active infections and already 50 dead people in the last few days. My cousin lives in Sweden and told us about how everything was basically as if nothing was going on at all, everything open and such, she was informing herself about the virus watching the news from our country since it wasn't even on tv much, she has stayed inside on her own accord. Taking “the quick way” will completely overburden our healthcare system. When that happens, people die that could have been saved. Younger, healthier people will die. There won’t be beds for emergencies outside of Coronavirus patients. We have a finite amount of healthcare workers. Once we hit a irreversible shortage, we are in real trouble for a decade, at least. What are you even talking about? public shutdowns in the province of BC have not slowed down to spread of the virus in retirement homes. In mid-March only 1 retirement homes was infected. It is important to lower the peak and spread out the cases as much as possible. That buys valuable time for health providers, allowing them to acquire the tools they need like beds and ventilators while avoiding being overwhelmed by patients.
