But you’ll also need food manufacturers to stock the supermarkets, tech companies to keep the banks secure, mechanics for the transport repairs, trade printers for the postal industry, etc.

It’s scary to recognize how many people will still need to work, but just keep social distances people. And isolate as much as possible!

Woow i honestly never thought about this. This whole time i've been like "just keep all people in theit dam houses" but now you made me realize this. What a mess this whole situation is!!

They should have done this earlier.. Situation there is really really bad and I'm so scared because Italy is close to my country.

Where do you live, if I can ask? Hope your country will be safe, but Europe is gonna getting worse for sure...

Why not just quarantine older people and people susceptible? Like can anyone explain why? That way our entire infrastructure as we know It won’t collapse and we can build up an immunity. Most of the people who are susceptible are already retired anyway! I have yet to find anyone who can give me a straight answer for that. Somethings fishy.

If anyone truly believes everything will go back to normal after this... I just have to laugh. The worlds governments never let a good crisis go to waste

Yet again, many are still looking at this through their own, very narrow lenses. Seeing comments like "I hadn't thought of that!" in response to someone pointing out that locking down a society to the 'essentials' still requires a massive amount of people to support it is kind of heart-breaking. This is not a reply to the person who said that, but it represents the way so many here and elsewhere online and in the world have failed to put critical thought first since the outbreak.

So many people immediately professed the need for government intervention, lockdowns, and isolation in the name of "compassion" and "doing  your part" when that literally means supporting thousands/millions losing their livelihoods, healthcare, educations, savings, homes... their futures. For every spring breaker being a jerk, there are 100x more people who are simply outside trying to survive. Believe what you want if you feel you have enough information to trust that these extreme, 1984-like measures are the only and absolute solution.

But, please do not think you are being "compassionate" when we are now seeing a society that is calling police forces on their neighbors and throwing buckets of water on them. This nightmare has been written out in every dystopian novel for a reason. Do you call the police on someone who needs exercise because they are having suicidal thoughts from the isolation? Do you call the police on the minimum wage worker who is forced to come in contact with compromised customers all of their shift? Thinking that YOU get to assign a value to a person in either of those situations, or to any other 1 of millions of reasons people may be outside, is the antithesis of empathy.

I guarantee millions more people in the world do not want to catch/spread a deadly virus than do. I guarantee that, by now, the people of Italy understand the gravity. Seeing the morals of humankind devolve because they feel empowered by watching celebrity propaganda/faux isolation solidarity is sick. How KIND of you to self-isolate for a few days and then call the authorities (who, as pointed out, are just as likely to be carriers but god forbid we discuss the place of the police and militaries in a situation like this) on someone trying to stay alive.

Oh gosh so sorry to hear that, hope Bosnia will be better soon. I've been in Bosnia just once few years ago, but I have precious memories about it:kara:

Because

A) viruses change. Now are dying people in their 40s and healthy.

B) if this virus keeps spreading like this even if only among young people, Italy has not enough equipment for Intensive care and there's now way to treat millions of people in a couple of weeks with the current situation... So no, we can't just lock elders

Everyone in Italy already on lockdown, yet they have over 1000+ deaths a day and that is growing exponentially. The health systems are so overwhelmed that they are triaging and not even treating most people. They median age of Italy is also about 45.3 years for a population of 60 million - half the population are susceptible. Italy should have gone into total lockdown long before they actually did. Young people are dying too, and if all the young people were let out, they will transmit it to the older people as well, because isolation is a collective effort.

China is the example, they went into complete lockdown and now life is returning to normal.

My country has zero cases yet.

Spoiler

Because they don't even have equipment to check and politicians are boasting that they have controlled the situations despite sharing boarder with China
