What is the acceptable number of deaths from hunger for you? That's the kind of questions you are asking. Do you think that people who are questioning the measures are ok with people dying? Then think again about this situation. their calculations are at a 6th grade level a 2.2% death rate doesn’t mean 2.2% of the world population will die... But so far less than 150 Americans have died from Corona under Trump, approximately 1.2% of the deaths compared to Obama’s handling of Swine flu. These are some cold hearted numbers that you cannot bury or deflect. Wow this aged poorly I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill. You're demanding people go back to work right away and that we feed everyone with the money we'd use to restart the economy? You also mentioned someone killing themselves in 5 years? All over the place. I get that you care and underneath the sass maybe have a kind heart, but I doubt your true motive here. I don't want anyone to die. I want people to avoid getting sick and I want people to get back to work when it's safe. That definitely isnt tomorrow. We cool?

Sis. Not sure what you're trying to prove, except that there's a certain number of deaths you're a-ok with, and that says all I need to know about you and your math skills. You win. It doesn't seem to make sense to design an economy specifically for that But, like you said earlier in the thread, this kind of thing could be happening a lot more frequently now, so wouldn’t it be smart to put one in place now? I'm not expecting to go to a concert or go see a movie in the next months. However, lockdowns should be limited in time, take into consideration their effects and be based on credible data. JRCF29 8,230
I doubt it will get that high. I think it will probably peak around 11-12%. By the end of 2020 I think it will be trending down. By this time next year close to 4% Don't Call Me Gaga
gabeoz 7,915
*Millions of people die every year from hunger so lets let a brand new virus that we have no treatment/vaccine for, with no knowledge of its long term effects on the human body spread freely* I'm so happy some people here arent in government because it's obvious they cant even comprehend a chart made for a 5th grader explaining how viruses spread and how only keeping people over 60 at home isn't going to work. And u think those form of lockdowns work? Theoretically, if they would work, Italy and Spain should be out of lockdown. They arent.

Theoretically, if they would work, Italy and Spain should be out of lockdown. They arent. Italy and Spain have peaked or plateaued recently and are on their way downwards. See the data for yourself: Italy: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/italy/ Spain: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/spain/ Why? Lockdowns. If no lockdowns were put in place there would be MORE cases, MORE deaths, MORE hospital systems in chaos. These are MITIGATION efforts. Had none been enforced they would be NOWHERE near peaking. The alternative is mass deaths.

Theoretically, if they would work, Italy and Spain should be out of lockdown. They arent. I dont- I just- I cant- China JUST lifted it's lockdown in Wuhan a few days ago after slowly lifting them in other parts of the country. Spain and Italy's lockdowns are WORKING, they are plateauing and their daily cases are falling. If the lockdown measures weren't implemented they would be in a far worse scenario right now. Lockdown doesn't magically end everything in a couple weeks, it takes time. I just- what is not clicking? Why is it so hard to admit the fact that lockdown measures work? A virus doesnt give a flying f*ck about the shape of the economy or our timelines. If we dont take drastic measures things could be a lot worse. And insisting on reopening the economy now would be suicide, you would just cause a second wave. How little the world, especially the US, has learned from it's mistakes in the 1918 pandemic.
