I definitely don't support any of those people. Just because Gaga made the mistake of working with somebody like R Kelly in the past doesn't mean I want her to work with another bad person though. JustJames 1,042
I honestly think most of these collaborations would do nothing but harm to her brand; just looking at the list gives me immediate cringe vibes. These musicians reach a different demographic and that's great for them and those fans; unless it happens organically, though, trying to get a commercial slice of that audience is almost certainly going to end up clashing sonically or in its acceptance/reception. I have said that her lack of collaborations in the past are one of the few things that have hurt the momentum of her eras and make her discography look a little weak. I think that, ignoring how it would work within the song itself, a big feature/collab on "You and I," a 4th single from a massive album cycle that needed a bit of a boost of energy, could've allowed her to gain enough traction for MTN to have had more success. Similarly, given her overexposed place in the industry at the time of ARTPOP, a second single with a totally new sound with a legendary icon was a brilliant move. Unfortunately, she chose the worst person to fill that role. Songs like "Perfect ft. Beyonce," "Good as Hell ft. Ariana," "Bad Guy ft. Bieber" all seem so desperate and transparent. Because she is obviously talented and I've seen hints of her celebrity that seem fun, I would definitely give a "Side to Side" style Ariana collaboration a listen. But, I think it'd be risking a lot. If it comes across as a gimmick, plea for streams, or worst of all, as an Ariana song with a backup vocalist, then no thanks. I'd be here for a collaboration with someone on the same level as her: Beyonce, had it not been done already, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Eminem, Bruno Mars, Kendrick Lamar.. or from totally different genres where she doesn't risk being overshadowed a la Ariana: Doja Cat, The Weeknd (borderline due to crossover into pop), Cardi B (ugh), Tyler the Creator, Roddy Rich, Childish Gambino Final conclusion: I think someone who is established digitally from the rap/urban/R&B world would be ideal; Doja Cat (unfortunately, I've heard she has some... issues) would be a great vibe, provide buzz for both a legend and a newcomer, and boost Gaga's commercial viability without looking like a money grab. Kanye West ca. 2012 would be great. Kendrick would be great. Personally, given the issues with Doja, Nicki, and Cardi, my choices would come from Tyler the Creator, Roddy Rich, Childish Gambino, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars, or The Weeknd.
