Probably this is my favorite album by Madonna as well. Don't get me wrong, I love Like a Prayer, Ray of Light, COADF and even MDNA and Rebel Heart, though they're far from fan's favorite albums. The aesthetics of Madame X era – I think this is the reason why I love the album. This phrase, Madame X is a dancer, a head of state, a professor, a saint, a *****... was stucking in my head for a while. And yes, for me Madame X is AOTY. American Life is kinda controversial since some love it and other hate it, but Ray of Light universally loved! I would definitely recommend it. It’s definitely her best album lyrically since American Life imo. Songs like Looking For Mercy, Extreme Occident, God Control, Dark Ballet, Killers Who Are Partying and I Rise are lyric standouts.
