Madame X is my fav Madonna album

SAME. It's really incredible. The whole era is just so well put together. And I'd have to agree with you on God Control. I'm still not over how shook I was while discovering it.

BUT, the tour is a really black spot for me, because I didn't get to experience it. I had tickets for Saturday, but she cancelled due to her injury, and for Wednesday, cancelled because of the f-ing virus. I'm REALLY glad she recorded it, but I'll FOREVER be mad I didn't get to experience it. :madge: Watching the DVD will be a bittersweet experience for sure...

(Funny fact, I launched the album on Apple Music for the 2nd today just before seeing your thread! :enigma:)

I gave it a handful of listens from start to finish after its release and haven’t given it a second thought since if I’m honest.

Really really underwhelmed by it, and a massive step away from the kind of sound I enjoyed from Madonna.

I even liked MDNA more than Madame X and that was my least favourite of all her studio LP releases. Favourite being American Life.

Wow that's really interesting actually. My favourite album before the release of Madame X was American Life and it's still my second favourite. Imo American Life and Madame X have lots in common and I always thought that's why I loved both so much! So it's interesting that one is your favourite and the other your least fav...

Good for you. You're one in a million.

Seeing the thread, looks like I'm not:reductive: But out of curiosity, what would your favourite be?

I really did like it, but it could have been SO much better and could have done so much more with the Madame X thing, especially on tour. That being said, the tour was amazing

It did really feel like the first full blown Madonna era in a decade though, and was super refreshing to see her actually interested and invested in the album. You could see she was totally behind it and that it came from a real place, unlike MDNA, where she was totally on autopilot and just doing it so she could go on tour

Now that her record contract is over and she’s a free agent :bon: again,it will be really interesting to see what she does next. Hopefully Guy won’t come near her with a 10 foot pole

I'm with you @Davian! It's a brilliant work of art from start to finish. Madame X is definitely up there with her best work.

He actually isn't.

The album got 4 and 5 stars in each and every review, and the same for the tour. Same people just have taste, and other's don't. :reductive:

You spilled!:reductive: Madame X is just ahead of it's time for others:reductive:

Where would MX place in your album ranking?:flutter:

You don’t skip any song, not even Funana? :oprah:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE MX TOO :nooo: I love the variety among each song, I love the new genres I was introduced to (Brazilian funk is absolutely great to work out to) I love the message of unity in Batuka, I love how it’s somewhat of a sequel to American Life, I love how some songs are like modern versions of her albums (God Control - Confessions, Crave - Bedtime Stories, IDSIF - Erotica, Extreme Occident - Ray of Light etc) this era is a whole ass serve

No, I don't skip any song! Funana may be my least fav from the album, but I still love it and listen to it regularly:firega: And I love that it's your fav nnn. With a diverse album like MX everyone will have different faves. I've seen so many people with different faves!:diane:

And you're absolutely right that the album feels like other albums of her put together. But it still feels completely new, fresh and cohesive:firega:

I think for me with Madame X while an experimental-ish sound for Madonna like American Life was back in the day, the features didn’t really add much value and the vocal production really off-putting on certain tracks.

I will say of Madame X though that the character angle and artistic direction (photo shoots/cover/music videos) were all pretty on point and much better than what was served for Rebel Heart - but ultimately enjoyed the music of RH more.

I saw the Madame X tour twice in Brooklyn before all the tour drama happened. But you could tell back then she was injured. It’s a shame this tour got tainted because the show was incredible. To me it part art installation part social commentary part pop concert and mixed in with all the Lisbon influences. Definitely her most stripped down show. I’ve seen her over 40 times over the years but the theatre tour was something magical and special.

Wow, that's awesome!! So cool that you've seen her so much. I've only been able to see her tours on DVDs since I'm not a fan for too long and I couldn't go to the MX Tour, but she always delivers:tony: I can't wait for the DVD:diane:

Yea it's definitely this tour got overshadowed by controversy and her injury. The era would've been flawless if it wasn't for the stressful tour. At least she can rest now.

Bedtime Stories is CRIMINALLY underrated though!! Nobody ever mentions it and it’s lowkey her best album, along with Erotica

Ahh, I'm sorry to hear that! That's really unfortunate:( The tour was sadly a mess at the end. It was so sad to follow, because the whole idea of a theatre was so cool and it totally fit the album. But the tour had too much setbacks. Is it confirmed to be filmed btw? If so, I can't wait to watch it:giveup: The LQ snippets people secretly recorded don't do it justice:laughga:

the one-two-three-four punch of SLAYAGE of Love Tried to Welcome Me into Sanctuary into Bedtime Story into Take a Bow is unmatched in her discography :tony:

how come you got into madonna so late? :oprah:

That had a couple of reasons actually. I’m only 19 so I didn’t really grew up with Madonna in the first place. My first real experience was the whole Madonna/Gaga feud because I’ve been a LM since I was 11. That really hurt my view on Madonna and it made me want nothing to do with her. Very childish, I know, but I was only 12:rip:

If you’re interested in my Madonna discography journey this is the thread that got me into her music:

Damn I thought I made this in 2018, but apparently it was already the beginning of 2019:poot:
