All Danish schools to close down for 14 days

Denmark's Prime Minister has announced that the country will close all kindergartens, schools and universities for two weeks to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

All public sector employees who do not perform critical functions will also be sent home on paid leave. 

"This will have huge consequences, but the alternative would be far worse," Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said at a press conference announcing the tough new measures on Wednesday evening, according to the Ekstra Bladet newspaper. 

"Under normal circumstances, a government would not present such far-reaching measures without having all the solutions ready for the many Danes concerned, but we are in an extraordinary situation."  

The dramatic decision came after the Danish Patient Safety Authority reported 442 new cases of coronavirus on on Wednesday evening, bringing the number of people in quarantine to 1,303.

Should be increased tbh. My country only has 72 cases which thankfully isn't much compared to others and yet we got 5 weeks off, while countries with hundreds of cases still have no changes...

When the f*** will Norway? We have around 650 people who are sick, of which 250 are just from TODAY. Until tomorrow morning we will have at least 700. Our government isn't doing sh!t

People are already beginning to hoard food and supplies, even though that goes against all advice from government. Hoarding food is exactly what's going to lead to a shortage of food I swear people are so stupid sometimes. But of course panic is going make people act irrationally.

and all greek just received a message on phone that says that we all should be very carefull ,stay at home and etc.

 

and i am studying in a lab in the hospital and i should go there (using the public transport) ,i am so gonna get Corona virus

Well, meanwhile in Germany schools and kindergartens are still open and no one believes there is a problem even though numbers of infections rise and rise administration and politics here are slow af

I know right. My roomies colleague went to see her boyfriend in another city. And then he got the virus. Since she had no symptoms, she was told to just continue her life and go to work like usual. But it can take days for the symptoms to arrive. And who goes to meet their boyfriend in another city, without doing the nasty? At least my school has shut down. But the way they are just risking things! The nerve
