WHAT !

Is it me or that is REALLY great for a song that old !

:worship:

It's also surprising that it's gotten such a huge boost. What would make radio stations want to play a hit from 2011 over 2012's party songs? Especially considering the fact that TEOG is a techno ballad.

Proof that the radio will play a good pop song if it's quality.

Call me pressed, but I don't want Ke$ha to break the top 10 streak. C'mon can flop and then Supernatural can be a hit :nails:

TEOG is a great celebration anthem.

I heard it 3 times this week on my radio.

For year end celebration, this song is perfect and reach any type of audience.

That's why.

I guess I never thought of it that way. Either way though, I'm happy that it's getting played :).

I also agree with the notion that the Internet has only increased US pop culture onto other world markets.

But the same can be said about foreign pop culture onto the American market. I doubt Adele would have reached American radio were it not for her emergence on the Internet during the first quarter of 2011. Also, Gangnam Style? The playing field is stabilizing little by little..

The later effect is stronger, because the US always had traditional media muscle to influence other countries.

We could talk about Aussie Gotye and Canadian Carly Rae coming from nowhere to have the two biggest songs of the year in the US. First #1 in home country, then #1 in UK, then big on youtube and itunes, and finally US radio puts it on power rotation.

Both Gaga and LMFAO got big first or faster in other English-speaking countries before they smashed US.

Lana DR got big in Europe first, and flopping in US didn't stop her from continued success in Europe,

Yep. It was at 4.482 on the 26th. (which is the lowest that song ever got i believe)

It has been getting great positive updates because of the new year. :)

Having literally no US support didn't keep her from having the fourth most purchased album of 2012 :). She's a prime example of how you can be a super star without US support.

I'm calling it now - the next one-hit wonder from nowhere!

Been #1 on Aussie itunes for a week, now #6 US itunes, it's Thrift Shop:

Lana Del Rey and Lady Gaga's sales WW are truly impressive.

Gaga:

Around 70% of all of her album sales come from outside the US.

Around 50% of her single sales come from outside the US. (except Y&I and Love Game i believe)

Lana Del Rey:

4th biggest album of the year without the backup of the US market

5M singles sold and her only peak on the US Top 100 was with Video Games (#91)

And let's not talk about how TFM sold 1.5M in the US and 8M WW

I love how Just Dance, Poker Face, Bad Romance, BTW and TEOG got longevity !
