WarriorPrince 1
Taylor's album sales are scary tbh Thank god she is local. If she wasnt, she would be as big or even bigger than Adele.

WarriorPrince 1
She's doing it left and right in the U.S. Good for her, but still the U.S is only one market in the world. She is irrelevant in Europe, not to talk about Asia, Africa, South America, Central America and Oceania.
Like It Rough 144
Taylor is so boring to me and uncreative. She's like a giant country squirrel who just won't stop driving me crazy. . . :taylor: :taylor: :taylor: :taylor: :taylor:

"Only one"... but by far the most relevant and the one that actually matters if you really want to make it big. The others* pale in comparison. *UK, Germany, France, Japan. The rest are more or less irrelevant. And the Japanese market is almost purely concentrated on domestic acts, so internationally it doesn't play that big of a role. That's true, US market is the most important one, but still, if you aren't transcendent worldwide, you can't become an icon of the music industry. Sure you can, an icon of the American music industry, although I think this "icon" status is terribly ambiguous and abstract and I wouldn't use it in any serious manner. Anyway, when you become this "icon" of the American music industry, at the same time you have cemented your status in the global market as well, even if you didn't really gain any chart success outside America. You made it in America and that's enough, you became somebody in other parts of the world as well. Plenty of examples of American acts that are able to tour the whole world despite the lack of international chart success. Doesn't work the other way though. I totally understand that, but I'm not sure if the same can be said about Taylor. She's still considered as a country act, an extremely unpopular genre outside the US. She's obviously trying to appeal more to Europe doing a pop album, but at this point of her career, I'm not sure if that's enough. She has barely performed outside the US, and she will have to do a lot if she wants to tour any other place of the world some day. In Europe not many people even know who she is. Galactic Mess 1,393
Well, Swift is kind of well-known within latin american youth, but she's only had a few moderate hits here... The last ones I remember are "You Belong With Me" and that one with all that Romeo ****. She's gonna have a really hard time breaking through worldwide... That's actually a little xenophobic for you to say. If Taylor can have the same comercial sucess that Gaga but if her sucess only comes from the US than that makes her a much less relevant and powerful pop musician. Actually it means a lot to make it worldwide, Gaga is known all over the world and she can sell out stadiums all over the world. Taylor? Taylor can sell out stadiums in ONE country. Taylor can have a hit in five countries while Gaga can have a hit in 20 countries. See the diference? You cant tell me that just because someone can be sucessful in the US that means that they are worthy to compare to Gaga. You made it in America and that's enough, you became somebody in other parts of the world as well. Yeah sure because Taylor, Kelly Clarkson, Kesha, Miley Cirus, Adam Lambert and Sucan Boyle are so global.
comrade 33
Yeah sure because Taylor, Kelly Clarkson, Kesha, Miley Cirus, Adam Lambert and Sucan Boyle are so global. First of all, Susan Boyle is quite an odd choice there, as she first conquered the European market and then the American. Second, most young Europeans, Latin Americans, Australians and so on do recognize the names you listed there. Which is exactly my point. They don't need to destroy the charts, they're American superstars and already that guarantees a certain global status for them. It's the most relevant but totally not the one that actually matters. That's actually a little xenophobic for you to say. Nothing xenophobic about it. Now, never did I ever compare Gaga with Taylor Swift. I just commented on your thoughts on the stance of the American music market. This Taylor vs. Gaga thing is a stupid battle and doesn't interest me in the slightest.
Americano 31,061
Global stars = Legends But you can't be a legend without the US, either. The US is half of the equation. Americans dictate and control global pop culture and mainstream music.
