Equality in 2006

While campaigning for Senate Sanders in 2006 refused to back marriage rights, opting for civil unions and said that the federal government shouldn't overturn state marriage laws. The Supreme Court would later overtturn state bans on marriage equality in 2015.

He was ok with gays dying for us in the military but not federal marriage equality.

Oh ok thanks. All the support he's given the community I'll throw it away because of something he did 1,000 years ago

Lucas

And he was supporting it in 1986, that's confusing...
Still, people's mind changed over the last decades so his opinion from 14 years ago can absolutely be different now

He's a career politician. He knows what to say and when to say it to get elected.

not to stray away from the point, idc about your american politics, we all know who's winning again,

but what's the point of constantly saying he had the backs of LGBT people since the 1800s, but the most recent event, dating back to 2006, him saying he opposes is, is 'too old to dig up'? :lmao:

i don't criticize bernie for this. just as i do not criticize obama. but it would be VERY hypocritical of the sanders supporters here who would put down obama for his stance on gay marriage not to be critical of this. but quite frankly i don't expect them to. i just want this primary to end already it's so annoying.

edit:

and to some of the people saying "people change over time" uh so when it's bernie it's okay to evolve but not for anybody else? god the hypocrisy is astounding.

I do believe people can change their opinions over time, but I also can’t stand it when people try to make it look like his record is squeeky clean from its inception. He’s said and supported questionable things.
