It's not like the flu at all, which is less contagious and less lethal as well. We must not overreact, but we must not act as if nothing is happening. Stay home, be calm, but STAY AWARE. Don't believe fake news, but neither believe all the "official information" which is always manipulated to keep people calm. I think that we'll know the reach of the virus within a few months. You’re right in that it makes no sense to compare the effects of the two. People comparing seasonal flu with COVID-19 are just as reckless. Like, can they stop trying to hide the risks under the rug? They don’t get the difference between cyclical and exponential functions. Worse, they amplify the risks with their ignorance. We are far more likely to catch COVID-19 from someone who thinks they can’t get it, than from someone who understands the risks and heeds the precautions. This is fear mongering clickbaiting at its worst. 1st, the only comparison with AIDS is that it hurts the immune system, which is kinds obvious if were being told from the start that you need a strong one to survive -_- Secondly, regarding the irreversible damage to the lungs, it says it RIGHT THERE that it doesnt happen to everyone, that precautions can be taken to avoid it when the disease starts, and that they ONLY think that it might be irreversible because a similar thing happens with SARS and its irreversible there BUT THAT IT ISNT AS BAD AS WITH SARS AND IT MIGHT NOT BE IRREVERSIBLE.
