1. Bad Romance

2. Born This Way

3. Applause

4. Stupid Love

5. Perfect Illusion

6. Just Dance

Given the timing and context, I sure prefer an uplifting song like SL after a lead single about heartbreak (PI) and rage, and even though Just Dance will forever be iconic, it feels slightly dated to me now.

REALITY

I know this is gonna get like 10 billion "sad" reactions, but here's my list:

1. Stupid Love

2. Applause

3. Perfect Illusion

4. Bad Romance

5. Just Dance

6. Born This Way

Spoiler

Okay, before I get death threats, here's why

Firstly, this is just my list as of right now. I change my mind a lot, and I'm very indecisive. If you ask me this question next week, it could be totally different. I'm also ranking these songs solely based on their sonud. I'm not taking into account their "legacy" or whatever.

1. I feel like I need to explain this one a lot, so here it goes. The reason I put SL above everything else is because it's just the newest and freshest sound we have from Gaga. I love going back and playing her old songs and old hits, but it's always since to see something completely new. If you ask me this question at the start of every era, chances are my favorite lead will be the newest—unless it's just a really bad  lead.

That's not the only reason though. I think the song incorporates the whole 80s feel mixed with modern, mainstream pop trends really well.  It also sounds unique to Gaga. This song is the perfect example of what I've wanted from her for a long time. Even her most commercial stuff is unique and different from everyone else, and SL, imo, is no exception. It's fun, upbeat, and it's something that I think most people will enjoy. I've put it on so many times while I'm in the shower and I'm just dancing and having my own mini-concert in there half the time

2. Like SL, Applause is uniquely different than anything else that released at that time, yet it still had commercial viability. I love the David Bowie-esque vocals too. It also ranks high because this was the song that made me become a Little Monster, so in that sense, it'll always have a special place in my heart.

3. PI is so underrated, by both fans and the GP. The song itself is great. It's a pop/rock/disco, psychedelic banger! The problem was that it was a bad lead single choice. That said, I feel like if she didn't release this as a single, it would've gotten the Bloody Mary, DITD, Scheiße, treatment. I feel like people would've loved it and asked for it to be a single. It would've been a fan favorite song. Instead, people complained and whined about it cause it just wasn't lead single material. It's so fun and you get this rush whenever you hear the song.

4. It's a classic. It's a fantastic song and there's no denying that; it's her most iconic song. I have nothing against that. I still love BR, I just like the other 3 more.

5. Same as BR. I love it, I bop to it; it's probably one of my favorites out of The Fame era. That said, I mean, there's a reason why I only started to become a Little Monster during ARTPOP. I still appreciated and liked the TF/TFM/BTW eras, but they just didn't connect with me. It's only in hindsight that I really love and appreciate that time in Gaga's career.

6. Sonically, I actually don't really like BTW all that much. It has a great message, obviously, and it's incredibly important in terms of raising awarness for the LGBTQ community. That said, I'd be lying if I said I didn't prefer the Country Road version more than the original....
