It's mostly a thing of the past, post-album singles are super rare for most artists now.

Taylor did get a hit with 'Delicate' as a fourth single, Dua did get a hit with IDGAF as her 8h/9th (?) single

Katy also got a hit with 'Hey Hey Hey' as her fourth single

It's a rule to prevent songs from charting indefinitely. SOY for example has been cut short because it fell below the top 50 on the chart. This rule counts for every song that is more than one year old or spent a certain amount of time in the top 50 or has amassed over 20 weeks on the charts and falls below #50. MR has been a real victim here because it would've charted longer and could've placed on the year end chart but it didn't

I'msure the format itself is more than 1/3 but HAC tends to not repeat the same songs as much as top 40 and so the charting songs don't peak as high because a lot of the spin slots are also older hits and throwbacks

 

It's more than big enough to have an impact and big influence on charts. It's also relevant in the sense that some audiences overlap between both HAC and Pop stations especially adults 30-45 years old so a hit in HAC can help spill over to POP as it makes audience that also listens to pop stations exposed to it 

 

However since the peaks in AI for  HAC is lower than pop, it is very difficult for a song to chart high or at least stay charting high if HAC alone plays it and Pop ignores it. Pop is still the bigger format for top 40 songs

 

So hopefully this HAC surge will spill to POP as well

OMG thanks for taking the time to type this out and explain. this brings so much clarity. I SUPER appreciate it and I'm sure others here do too. Radio has always been the most confusing part to me.
