But everyone who responded gave explanations as to why they disagreed! You literally answered your own question again, people power will do it. Calls to representatives will do it. Primaries will do it. Peaceful protests will do it. Having the billionaires pay their fair share of taxes did not lead to Stalin and Mao sksks Jesus. You’ll pay kite in taxes yes, but with copays, premiums and additional health costs gone, you’ll save less overall. Bernie has been saying this. Bernie is trying help others, and you, by making it easier to live financially. How is it going to save me money if I don’t go to the doctors much ? I’d rather have that money to put in my own savings ... I just picked up a prescription for some muscle relaxer - I provided a copay if 8.00 dollars - ONCE ... I remember reading a chart that shows the tax rate increases per income. Last time I read that in my income bracket my taxes would go from 20% to 25% of my income taxed. Basically that goes from me paying 10,000 K in taxes annually on my income to 12,500 ... I’m losing 2500 per year. Sure copays won’t be extant but considering how low my copay is and how few times I’ve need treatment at the moment I’m losing money - how is that making it easier for me to live when I’ve lost $2500 that I would’ve need on life necessities or from time to times, life’s wants

The profit margins you gotta pay for in hospitals plus the costs of the middle man (insurance companies) plus their profit margins as well just bloat the cost of the system The US already spends twice per capita on healthcare as a typical developed nation If ur concern is quality, based on the amount the US already spends on healthcare now u can have a BETTER quality universal healthcare system than most Countries do even other rich countries The issue isn't just the system it's also how much money u choose to pump into it. The US "quality" if 1/2 was spent on it like in other nations would also have the same issues perhaps even worse because of the waste in the system. So it's also about funding not just which system you choose Canada doesn't like deficits and debt so it's conservative with spending. The US already overspends a lot anyway might as well overspend on covering everyone then But Canada also barely spends on its own defense and foreign aid - reason I’ve always said the United States needs to pull back providing aid and defense to other countries

But from experience what I hear in US media about our hospitals and system is also frankly a little embellished and exagerated even if there is some degree of truth to it... The picture some conservatives paint is not really the reality Again anyone that knows me knows I'm no far lefitst... But when it comes to healthcare that's one thing that I think is unique for a number of different reasons and the way it behaves in the free market is not like your normal industry. It's something I think is better and cheaper to just be universally funded

Is that really your argument? Judging someone for not taking a mic away from someone & basing their leadership skills on such a shallow & mundane detail instead of meaningful work that he’s done? Let me guess, you actually have no clue about what he stands for & is fighting to achieve & therefore have to resort to child like thinking to somehow make him a “bad guy.” You sound like a Trump supporter. It’s as clear as day. That’s just the harsh reality of it all. Bernie did praise the USSR and praised Castro. The two concepts can be conflated particularly when Cuba and the Republic of China are actually defined as socialist states. Their governments are Marxist-Leninist (the philosophy) inspired. The whole philosophy is to build a socialist state that transitions into a communist state. Considering the philosophies he states which is envisioning a classless system wherein there’s a common ownership of the means of production - literally the definition of communism. and if you want to remain that socialism and communism are not related then fine - explain Venezuela. Do we want to attempt to go that route ? Bernie seems to considering he also praised the country.

Yes, communism is a TYPE of socialism, but don’t sit here & act like it’s the same as democratic socialism which is what we’re trying to achieve. They’re 2 very different concepts & I recommend reading further down that wiki page you got your info from so you can inform yourself on all the different types of socialism. It’s pretty hilarious how you cherry pick your facts to base entire arguments off of instead of seeing the forest around the tree.

Can’t be that different when the core philosophy of democratic socialism is anti-capitalist. I mean I’ve lost count at how many times these self proclaimed “democratic socialists” have blamed capitalism as the main social ill. The point of democratic socialism is to eventually transition a country into a full blown socialist regime. The Democratic Socialists of America even mention the desire to transition to the United States on their site....they’re not at all different —/
