Personally I don't eat red meat but I'm not going to push other people to change. I don't think it's in my purview.

Only thing I can do is address the cons of eating meat.

But the food chain and genealogy has evidences that we have adapted from eating animal products for generations example our incisors and canines are used to tear any meats.

But we should slowly move away as scientific evidence suggests that it's kind of bad for the environment

I agree, thats why we need to get rid of factory farming and go back to how we used to farm - natural pasture raised animal who are well looked after and fed only on grass. Then once the cows have eaten the grass, move them to another field to allow the grass to regrow! Farming this way has already shown to rejuvenate the soil and rejuvenate ecosystems. Its much much better for us and for the animals... and slitting the throat is better for the animal and for us :vegas:

Do you not see how you are desensitised to that and see slitting a throat as something normal.

I'm not saying it to start a debate because I really don't want one and we already know our views are opposite. I'm not trying to change anybody's dietary choices either but that line just seems so sad to me because it shows a lack of empathy for our animal friends. (I mean friends as in we share the earth not some silly Disney way).

Well we used to throw a spear at things, then we moved onto using knives and then guns :vegas:    animals are not humans, and there are certain animals which are food and certain animals that are our "friends".  Its the food chain. Pets like dogs, cats, and birds should never be eaten, but cows are not pets and we never ever kept them as such because they were food. Killing animals like cows, deer and wild pigs ect IS natural and normal. What is not normal or natural is completely disregarding ecosystems and not eating those animals which have always been eaten throughout history. Its not normal to just eat fruits and vegetables and leaving out meat and eggs

if we were talking about killing other humans, of course its wrong. But we are talking about cows here, not humans or animals which are pets.

Edit: I think the issue is that people have become desensitised and conditioned to believe that ALL animals should never be eaten and been conditioned to think that its natural to have cows (ect, all animals really) as our friends when this has never been the case throughout history. We are conditioned to believe that killing anything is wrong, even those pesky spiders that come into your room, from an early age. We are never taught why our ancestors ate meat for around 90% of their diet, and the damaging impacts on just eating plant matter.

You didn't teach me anything new. You parrot the same things that many people do who want to defend why it's ok to eat meat. Just because we used to hunt with a spear doesn't mean it's ok to continue to kill animals.

We are evolved beings and we have the ability to understand that other living beings are sentient. For most people who choose veganism it's about respecting all life and not putting yours above another.

Did you know that cows pine for their calves when they are taken away. They want their babies back. But they were only made to get pregnant so they would produce milk for humans. Have you ever seen a cow cry for her baby? It's very sad and very cruel that we put these creatures through such emotional pain.

In this modern world we don't need to eat meat to survive and most people don't hunt for their meat. They buy it perfectly packaged and don't have to face the horror of the slaughter. Do you think they'd still eat it if they had to do that? We know they wouldn't.

Very sad that u see it that way. There are amazing intelligent animals out there with emotions just like you. Watch a docu about wolves or elephants you'll see that they care about their kids just like we do, and they care about their older parents like we do, they get sad when a family member dies, just like we do.. etc We have a lot of similarities with animals. You desensitize yourself from these animals because of our society and probably see it as a 'Disneyland fairytale' type of **** when you read things like "animals have emotions, they are our friends" but it's the truth. I think at some point you'll find some empathy for all of them

It is in your interests since raising animals for slaughter significantly contributes to global warming and mass extinction.

I know

But I can only change myself and try to push the facts of how it is detrimental to enviorment

People need to change themselves

As we live in a democracy you can't force change

You are trying to justify treating animals like cows as humans. You want to give them the same rights as us. You've literally been conditioned your whole life to think that killing an animal of any kind as bad. You think that cows are your friend, just as much as dogs. Killing animals such as cows and pigs ect is normal. Leaving them alone is not normal, and thats what you asked me.

You don't know why we hunted and killed animals like cows for food, because if you did, you would realise how important it is for us. In this modern world, we cannot eat just plants. Our bodies are not designed to eat those things, so any vitamins and minerals you intake through fruit and veg, VERY little actually gets absorbed by the body. We need the meat and the animal fats to get the correct ratio of vitamins and minerals in our diet. Its the most easily form of vitamins the body can digest.

As I've stated in previous replies, and you can check back, I AGREE factory farming is wrong and we need to stop it. But we should have proper natural agricultural farming again, using traditional methods and none of this gain-feeding nonsense, separating calves from their mothers ect... that doesn't happen when farming is actually done the natural way. That is the fault of supermarket chains like tesco taking away the power of farmers. Grass-fed animals are better for the environment, and for us. And if you teach kids our actual history and why we eat meat, and the process of natural farming, there wouldn't be an issue. But we are taught that planet earth needs to turn into the land of fairies, unicorns and rainbows and eveything on the planet should be treated as our friends. And its nothing like that.

If people boycotted supermarket meats and bought organic grass fed meats, OR put pressure on them do farm correctly, then that would be better for everyone.

I've been vegan going on 4 years. So don't try to tell me that in this modern world we can't live on just plant based foods :lmao:It's not realistic. Convenient for your personal agenda, yes. But not realistic.

Nobody deserves to die or be raped for your taste buds. My family and I have been vegetarians our whole life. If we can be healthy with a plant based diet, so can you. I’m not forcing anyone to give up meat but please have a conscience. You’re a human being not a wild animal.

There are ways of farming which are ethical, and non ethical farming which these supermarket chains do. I'm not saying animals don't feel emotions, but they do not experience the same emotions humans do. To think that they do is absurd.

You mention wolves; we are almost like them. We are natural hunters and we eat other animals. You don't see wolves munching on apples, they normally tear into another animal. We do have similarities with some animals, and some major differences... just like we are natural carnivorous creatures like wolves, not plant eating creatures like the cows you want to keep.

Its not, its actually more damaging because the natural ecosystem where carbon gets absorbed by the grass would be destroyed

petition to educate wolves & stop their unethical killing of other animals. they have done ENOUGH DAMAGE AS IT IS!

I know the history of why we eat meat. You seem to think I was born with an idealistic point of view and I don't know anything about why we eat meat.

I was raised as a meat eater. I haven't been conditioned. I always felt it was wrong and I stopped eating meat when I was old enough to choose.

I see all animals as sentient beings and feel that humans don't have a right to exploit other sentient beings.

In your next post you go on to talk about how animals don't feel emotions like we do. They absolutely do. Just because they can't articulate themselves in the same ways we can doesn't mean they don't feel anything.

We aren't natural hunters at least not anymore. Most people wouldn't know the first thing about how to hunt an animal. If it requires being taught then it's not natural.

If you leave the cows alone, the population of cows will obviously significantly increase. If you are using pastures for farming your veg and grains, spraying all those pesticides will damage the soild and because we have an overpopulation of cows, the grass cant grow back because its what the cows eat. No grass = no carbon sink... which means more carbon in the atmosphere thats not getting absorbed by the grass.

Natural farming helps keep pastures fertile, and keeps carbon low
