“Celebrating the singer’s legacy” also known as exploiting the death of a celebrity for the people with access to her estate to maximize profit

Who is it hurting?

Not necessarily “hurting” anyone, but people are basically making the money that Whitney has earned. It feels exploitative for both the fans and for Whitney. The best way to honor her legacy is posthumous releases showcasing the songs not yet heard, like that “Higher Love” cover. Turning her image into a puppet show seems wrong and it doesn’t provide anything new to her legacy. We should be asking the question “should we do it” rather than “can we do it”

I see your point but I also am more inclined to see the other side of it. This technology will allow generations of people to experience an artist even if they happen to have lived in the wrong generation. Can you imagine how great it is that 100 years from now people will still be able to, for example, go to a Gaga show? It makes her live on.

Yes, people are gonna profit off this. People profit off many things. Funeral service providers profit off people dying.

Ok yes but mortuaries also provide expensive and “culturally necessary” services. People are dying every day. It would be much more expensive and emotionally taxing for a family to figure all of this out without funeral service providers. So it’s exploitative in as much as capitalism is, but it also provides a legitimate service and value. I’m sure to some this is a very valuable product, but I would say that this is definitely more exploitative than funeral services lololol

My point was not that mortuary services are exploitative and evil, but that "exploitation" is hardly a bad thing when it does no harm to anyone involved. I would go as far as argue that holograms are MUCH less direspectful to an artist than posthumously releasing music they never agreed to be released, box sets, etc.
